5 year old going on first school trip

I’m ridiculously anxious. There are only 18 in the class so there are less than keep track of but the part I’m most worried about is that they’re not wearing uniform. It says to just go in comfy clothes. I always thought uniform was the best option on a trip in case a child wanders off or gets lost and they can be easily spotted.

They’re going to a museum that’s in some pretty grounds with a fountain, playground etc.
My big concern is that he’ll wander off or someone will come over and try to engage with him and he’ll go off with them (he is very trusting despite what I’ve told him about stranger danger).

Is anyone else this worried about school trips, he’s my only child so that might play a part too. I would volunteer to help out but I’m working that day.

Most schools put hi-vis vests on them for trips, especially at that age.

But also, he will be fine! They know to keep an eye on the kids and will be counting all day long.

They give them hi viz vests. Much easier to spot.

The teachers will do headcounts about every three minutes (I exaggerate but you get the idea)

Each adult will have their own children to keep track off.
Don't worry about uniform... mine started school abroad and had no uniform for trips, or hi'vis... they were still recognisable! The teachers are magicians.

Staff will be so used to this. They make kids buddy up and hold hands, count constantly, hi viz jackets or hats. I think you're o er worrying because it's an unknown to you, but to staff it's a normal thing and they will be so used to it and have so many tactics to handle the day.

DS 6 has been on a couple of school trips now, and is due another one in 2wks to a museum with huge outdoor park that leads down a path to a large and wide river.
I'd be lying if I said I hadn't had a moment of anxiety but honestly he'll be fine.

I work in early years and every school trip we've done the children all wear hi-vis vests as standard. We usually have more staff/volunteers than we would on a normal day and children are partnered up in smaller supervised groups so multiple things are in place to safeguard. Risk assessment before any trips I've been on have been rigorous. I think nerves are natural but the school will be doing everything they can to ensure safety.

Oh I remember Dts first trip, they were still 4. Train to London, then a tube. I was terrified all day so I feel your pain! Th EU had the best day out and all was fine. They wore hi vis. I went as a helper in the next trip and it alleviated the anxiety seeing how well organised it was.

I was incredibly anxious when DS1 was in YR and had his first tripto the zoo. I spoke to his teacher and was just honest about how scared I was. She was really reassuring and talked me through their safetyprecautions for the day.

It really helped!

Having worked in schools and been on countless school trips they will be fine. Usually they give hi-vis vests if no uniform. Head counts are done continuously throughout the day. Kids also tend to stick together and not wander off from their group.
Your child will have a brilliant day and will be able to tell you all about it when they get home. 🥰
