7 month old baby fell off the bed today.

I hadn't left her unattended, I was sat on the bed with her! I was folding clothes, she was right next to me in the middle of the bed and a second later she was on the floor. It was so fast.

She seems absolutely fine, she cried for 2 minutes and then she was back to her normal smiley self. Not a mark on her, no bumps on her head. It's not a very high bed to be fair. I kept her up later than normal because I was worried about concussion but she was getting overtired so I had to put her to bed at 9. Obviously I'm keeping a very close eye on her tonight.

I can't stop thinking about it. I keep replaying it over and over in my head, hearing the thud as she hit the floor, thinking what could have happened if she'd landed at a different angle etc. I just feel utterly shit.

Not sure what I'm expecting from posting really, just needed to get it off my chest!

This happens to pretty much everyone.

happened to our oldest….youngest is still yet to roll off a bed but my husband did manage to only pick up one Basinette handle and dramatically “unfurl”/ roll our 3 day old baby a meter or so across our hall. 🤦🏻‍♀️
ultimately no babies were harmed

Edited

🤣 I'm sorry just the image of an unfurling bassinet cracked me up. Babies are wily, they'll get into all sorts of shit and leave you standing there thinking what the fuck? 😳

Can I ask is this your first child?
I’m sure your little one is perfectly fine, they’re going to fall and get bumps even if you wrap them in cotton wool they’re just great at it.

My DSis had her son roll off a changing unit onto her neck when she lent down to get fresh clothes out the drawers...
I had both babies roll off the bed and one off the sofa too.

Character building!! 🤔😂

Don’t worry OP. Something will have happened to every single one of us on here I can assure you!! And we will all feel absolutely horrendous and at the time like the worst mum ever. But we are not and I’m sure all our DC are happy and healthy now!

Many years ago I had baby on my hip trying to shut a bedroom door which wouldn't shut .....because my baby had put their fingers in the hinge side ,I was so upset I'd done it even though it was an accident.
It was just that for you an accident,we all do it at some point

OP this happened to me but the worst thing was the pram almost rolling into the road and a woman grabbed it. I still have flashbacks. It was without a doubt the worst few seconds of my life.

This happened to my DH when our son was a bit younger. DH placed DS on the sofa for two seconds while he got up to get DS's bottle and DS, who was only just starting to learn to roll at that point, rolled himself off the sofa, onto our wooden floor.
I was freaked out and a bit PFB, so I insisted that we took DS to A&E but there was nothing wrong with him.

Multiple times. I'm a terrible mum given that I hadn't learnt not to keep putting baby on the bed!

Vettrianofan · 19/06/2024 07:07

Babies bounce. Don't worry, many of us have had this freak thing happen with our babies. My 17yo did this and fell off the changing table as a baby which is higher up than a bed.

Your baby will more than likely be fine, it's the parents that get more of a fright than anything else!

My almost two year old also fell down the stairs! Top to bottom which was honestly traumatising but she's fine
