Would it annoy you if your neighbours alarm went off almost every day ( for no reason ) ?

My neighbour's house alarm is very sensitive and goes off all the time. Probably every day, sometimes twice a day.

It's not THAT loud.

Our other neighbour's alarm also goes off quite a lot, but not as much.

Ours doesn't go off ( or very very rarely ) because we set it with less sensitivity than theirs.

They each say they don't mind the false alarms and would rather just keep it on sensitive, but it doesn't bother them.

It's really starting to annoy us. Because the expectation is that you go look around outside and make sure all is well and then text them to tell them it's going off and coast looks clear ( even though everyone has CCTV as well ). I didn't make this rule, but it's what the others do when the alarms go off, so feels like you need to do that.

Sometimes I do just ignore it when I'm in the shower or whatever, but it's a nuisance. I just find it very strange the others always say it's not a problem and they'd rather they went off than we got burgled. However, I find that with so many false alarms, I just always assume it's a false alarm anyway.

It's just a bit tricky because we seem to be the only ones bothered.

If that were my alarm, I’d be thinking of changing supplier. False alarms are worse than no alarm as you lose your vigilance and get complacent.

Yanbu to stop reacting to it.

OR tell them that you think you’ve seen someone on the next few occasions. Give them some real consequences!

My neighbours does just this, and they live away most of the time, so it carries on for ages. Seriously thought about getting up on a ladder and disabling it! 🤣

MrsEverest · 11/07/2025 08:44

My god where do you live that this is necessary?? Move.

It would certainly annoy me and no I wouldn’t check. They will then learn what ‘alarm fatigue’ is, as their security system becomes worthless.

Move then. I wouldn't be changing my home security on the say so of some whinger.

They are making their home less secure because they will themselves think that every alarm is a false alarm.

And the objective of having a loud noise are NDN who look to see whats happening.

I will bet if the alarm is going off randomly twice a week most of the NDN would wave at anyone breaking in and tell them while they are at it to take the alarm with them.

Unless the alarm is being triggered by a detector being activated these alarms are faulty. Our alarm is regularly serviced and doesn’t randomly trigger. I can’t see the point of having a system and not ensuring it works correctly.

Sod that, I'd just text and say your bloody alarm is going off again.

This.

id tell them if they won't sort it out I'm not going around everytime it goes off. The two annoying neighbours can do it for each other.

Yeah, it's usually something like a breeze moving a net curtain that sets the sensor off, if it's not set properly.

Am sorry but I can’t believe you have been helping and reporting back to them about these alarms going off every single day, it’s lunacy! Please stop. They are using you. I would have done this once twice at a push then told them to sort the alarm out

Tennislives · 11/07/2025 11:54

Would definitely piss me off.
Noise pollution.

Our alarm went off and once and we couldn't stop it for hours (something to do with a faulty electric supply and the battery in the bell box) I was mortified and worried the neighbours would hate us - luckily they all seemed to accept it was just one of those things that happen once in a blue moon

If it was daily I'd fully expect them to do something about it.

You need to make it a them problem somehow rather than helping them when it goes off. I’m not sure how though, if the police weren't already so stretched I'd suggest calling them every time. They'd soon make them do something about it!
