To think you can have vaginal thrush without symptoms?

Ummm...sorry if TMI. I don't have any symptoms of itching or anything, but looked inside my vagina today (I do a monthly check down there as I have an unrelated skin condition for which I apply steroid cream) and, er, there's a bunch of white creamy discharge? It's not exactly cottage cheese-like, much thinner, and doesn't smell bad or anything.

Is this thrush? How long has it been there? It's causing me literally no symptoms?!

Sounds like thrush since there is no smell, you can buy fluconazole over the counter for £4 & if it doesn't help, see a GP for advice.

I have this too. I went to the doctor and they prescribed thrush. I used canesten cteam and it went. Stopped the cream and it came back. No other symptoms

I got summoned after a smear for the doctor to tell me I had thrush. I’d had no idea whatsoever.

FairTurtle · 16/06/2024 19:21

@Chanc Did you just treat it again when it came back? Bit nervous now as I don't usually look in my vagina, so no idea how long it's been there for...or whether it's just normal...weird I had 0 symptoms so literally wouldn't have done anything if I hadn't checked.

Could you be ovulating? That can cause discharge.

FairTurtle · 16/06/2024 19:28

@Notamorningkindofperson I normally get ovulation pain with I ovulate - this happened about 3 days ago. So I guess the discharge isn't linked to that?

I always find thrush to be madly itchy, and the vagina and labia are redder, but some don't get symptoms. A smooth white non oderous discharge doesn't necessarily mean anything bad. I sometimes get it, probably hormonal.
But no harm I guess in using the canesten cream and pessary to see if it goes away. I once got freaked out by the chalky lumps from the pessary up there, thinking it had made the discharge worse, lol.

Chanc · 16/06/2024 19:38

@FairTurtle i have used cream a few times but it always comes back. I would like to speak to the doctor about it again but haven’t managed to get an appointment. I might try the tablet a pp mentioned

OhcantthInkofaname · 16/06/2024 19:48

To be honest I've never heard of anyone having thrush without itching.

You can get a ph test, to check if it's thrush or BV. If you don't know yourself well it could be ovulating as another PP said.

I recently had this. I didn't know what it was as no itching. Used thrush treatment and it went. So assume it was thrush

Coffeeandcrocs · 16/06/2024 22:07

White, creamy discharge can be normal at points of your cycle!

Most of us know what's normal for us though.
