To call 111 because I can't go to the toilet

TMI warning!

I have a rectocele prolapse but it's to the point that it is bulging out when i try to open my bowels. Today I keep getting the desperate urge to empty my bowels but when I go to the toilet nothing comes out, even though I can feel it there, presumably because the bulge is blocking it. All I'm passing is very small amounts and lots of yellow mucus. Is this something I need to speak to somebody about today or do you think I should wait until tomorrow to see the Gp.
For context the Gp has prescribed stool softeners which don't seem to be helping. I've also tried using my fingers to push the back wall of the vagina which was recommended by the dr. But nothing seems to be working and my stomach is so painful!

I think you should phone then today. They may say to contact your GP tomorrow or they may offer other advice. You lose nothing by phoning.

IncompleteSenten · 16/06/2024 13:55

Yes, call 111 for advice. I'm really sorry. That must be horrible.

ThunderQween · 16/06/2024 13:55

No harm in calling them. If they don't think it's urgent you won't get a call back until just before the gp opens tomorrow anyway

Hankunamatata · 16/06/2024 13:55

There's no harm phoning to get advice.

Having had surgery for rectocele and cystocele I can emphasise op. It's a horrible feeling and not easy to live with. I would suggest getting some dulcolax which is what I used to use when passing stools was hard like you are describing, and you've nothing to lose by calling 111. If you're not already waiting for surgery I would strongly suggest you push for your GP to refer you, it was life changing for me, been over 10 years since i had the surgery and I've had no problems since.

fedupfedupfrdup · 16/06/2024 14:56

Thanks everyone, I will call 111.

@howonearthdoesithappen I am currently still waiting to see a specialist so I'm hoping they will refer me for surgery!

Waiting for a call back from 111 but it's now turned in to blood stained mucus does anyone know if that's normal?

Can you get to an A&E Dept? It sounds really painful and horrible for you. Can you use sanitary towels whilst you wait for medical intervention?
I hope that you soon feel much more comfortable.

Pigeonqueen · 16/06/2024 16:36

I think if I were you I’d get to A and e. That’s likely to be what 111 will advise anyway.

UpUpUpU · 16/06/2024 16:38

Has anybody ever taught you how to manually remove the poo and support the prolapse so you can empty your rectum? It’s not pleasant but it can really help in the short term

fedupfedupfrdup · 16/06/2024 16:39

@UpUpUpU I've tried doing what the Gp advised to move it but I'm not able to.
