To ask what drugs make people laugh and shriek non stop for hours?

Not because I want them myself mind.

We have a new-ish neighbour who is extremely noisy. She has friends around sometimes on weekends and today they have been shrieking non-stop for literally hours. By non-stop, I mean they are barely pausing for breath. I don’t think it can be a proper conversation, it’s just people yelling over each other. Also lots of stomping around the house (it’s a strange layout where they share a wall with us upstairs but not downstairs).

On previous occasions I’ve assumed it was alcohol but it’s just not normal tonight and now I’m wondering what they’re on.

Seriously, it sounds like galumphing Pontypines next door!

Alcohol makes people like that. I've been in restraunts where a group and people are on their 1st glass of wine screaming and cackling at nothing, like it's a competition who can be centre of attention

Anotherparkingthread · 16/06/2024 01:53

I've taken almost every street drug and honestly, it's not drugs. Even laughing gas, despite the name, wouldn't cause this. It's either alcohol or just contagious laughter lol. The only time I've actually got into that state I was sober! Trying to do some 'nailed it' DIY thing to a lampshade with twigs in the garden, that I'd seen on a craft blog, and it was utter shit and getting shitter by the minute. Couldn't hold it together.

A group of neurodivergent friends (particularly ADHD) who don't often all spend time together? Seriously, it sounds a lot like me and some of my closest friends when we get together, and several of the group don't even drink alcohol!

Is incessant shrieking not a noise that neurodivergent people would find difficult to tolerate?

Marrta · 16/06/2024 11:13

This has happened to me on lsd before

Some would find it hard to tolerate, yes, but it very much varies. For some of us, background noises are a huge issue, but noise we're "involved in" is fine. Sensory needs vary hugely between different neurodivergent people

Begsthequestion · 16/06/2024 11:16

Acid or mushrooms

Well it sounds very inconsiderate, whether the noise is created by people who are NT or ND. I'm not ND as far as I know (although possibly have misophonia) and that sort of racket would have me wanting to rip my own ears off.

Disturbia81 · 16/06/2024 11:22

@niadainud @R41nb0wR0se Yes I work with ND people and it's very common for them to not be able to tolerate loud noises but then make them themselves, shrieking eg. and to talk at full volume. So getting them together in groups of other ND people is the only way for them to have friends (as NT can only tolerate them in small doses) but then they all set each others sensory issues off. It's not easy for them.
It would be hard to live around all the time OP

Thank you for explaining. Sounds tough.

Will be coke. Its always coke.

Were they up late?

bombastix · 16/06/2024 12:00

Alcohol with cocaine; insufferable combination but very common.

Also “people”? Mostly associate shrieking with women particularly if very drunk. Men tend to bellow and yell.

BobbyBiscuits · 16/06/2024 12:07

I'd say nearly all drugs make people kind of noisy and animated, apart from heroin.
Hopefully it's not going to be a regular occurrence. I guess if it keeps happening you'd better politely complain.

My initial post says "On previous occasions I’ve assumed it was alcohol but it’s just not normal tonight and now I’m wondering what they’re on."

Thus explaining why I thought there was something else in play. It isn't normal to go non-stop for four hours like that.

The poster (you?) then started commenting as if I had denied assuming there were drugs involved ("So yes, you've assumed they were on drugs.")

Basically a discussion about nothing.

Were they up late?

Not particularly late but after they'd left she spent at least 15 minutes vacuuming. I know it was Saturday night but still seems a bit inconsiderate around midnight.

All very strange.

I met her father once and he was quite hostile towards me.

I find her slightly odd (for lack of a better phrase; she may have disabilities or other challenges, I wouldn't know, and I don't mean to be ableist) and I think it's pretty clear that any requests to keep the noise down would at best be ignored and more likely would cause problems.

For example, our front doors are practically next to each other and when she leaves the house she occasionally bangs against mine quite hard as if she's knocking at the door. I assume it's accidental but the previous neighbours never managed it in 15 years.

Booze and cocaine fits the bill. So does being loud and annoying

I second this.
Alcohol and Cocaine = Instant arseholes

Disturbia81 · 16/06/2024 13:31

@protestanttraybake How do you mean bangs against yours? God that would be annoying!

I didn't explain that very well. I think maybe she turns around with a backpack on or something? Or maybe slaps her keys against my door? The front doors both open inwards so there's no way for them to touch.

It was definitely annoying at first because I kept thinking there was someone at the door. Then I realised what was happening.

You get women together reminiscing and they shriek yo high heaven
