Do all MNs wfh or in an office?

Just an observation, so many posts seem to be from Mums who wfh or 'have to go into an office'.

Any others out there who do the whole getting up early, depend on breakfast clubs/wraparound care? So, getting dressed, commuting to work, doing the job all day face to face with the public, travelling back, pick up DC and catch up on chores?

Just wondering if anyone else actually goes out out to work anymore. I guess some of us do and find the posts about choosing to slack and bewilderment of a hard day of online meetings a bit strange?

I've changed career after a very long time in education and oh boy, having to be present in teams meetings while having my washing on etc is sooooo much easier! Xx

@RampantIvy oops no sorry that was a typo, 2 in office, 3 at home!

I'm a barrister so I wfh or from the office when I am preparing or doing paperwork, but obviously have to be in court when I'm doing a trial. Currently doing 3 weeks in trial in another city, too far to commute. Luckily my husband can wfh most of the time and our children are a bit older now but he used to go away for his job too (less often) so I booked those weeks out of my diary for trials. The advantages of self-employment! But once a trial is in my diary I am committed to it, no flexibility.

I also have a trainee barrister with me for at least 3 months per year and during those months I am either in the office or in court full time, pretty much.

My eldest now gets to school on his own but the youngest's nursery and primary school were chosen partly because either of us can drop off and pick up on the way to/back from the station to make everything workable.

Couldn't think of anything worse than WFH 😃

Nor me! I do wonder whether people with young families who are finding it so convenient working from home will feel different when kids are grown and off to work/uni. One of the best parts of work
for me was interaction with colleagues. I also like a change of scene and dressing smartly for work. I would find little pleasure in sitting in my house in my pjs working remotely.

I’ve wfh since my first proper full time job post school, so 2011ish.

Don't you feel isolated?

I work in a school office, so do both things iyswim! I would love to WFH but really enjoy the school holidays (I'm not a teacher, so I actually get the holidays off. Pay is dreadful though)

I'm hoping to try and find something where I can wfh full time when my dcs are a bit older.

How is going to an office NOT going out to work? People who work in offices use wrap around childcare and have commutes

Why would you do that unless you wanted to, though?

There are lots of different ways to work remotely or from home, none of which have to involve sitting on your own in your PJ's all day.

Office work has its own intensities, but really you are sat on a chair and working on a computer. You are able to go to the toilet when you want, make a coffee, go out for lunch, no responsibility of looking after others.

This can't be compared to frontline jobs, on the go all the time, desperate for a wee but have to hold it in, then admin after work hours. Xx

I go to work in an office
I spend around half my time at my desk, and half in meetings or doing other things.
I can theoretically go to the toilet when I want....but in reality not during meetings.
I sometimes don't have time to eat.
I have a team of people to look after.....and far more policies on that than schools do. Plus it's all down to me, not shared with multiple other managers or SEND teams or SLT
Technically I get half an hour for lunch but this is not protected and often have back to back meetings from 10am to 3pm with no lunch break.
I often work 8.30-6 or later doing admin on weekends and holidays.

Your idea of "office work" appears to be "typist from the 1950s"

Ha ha no! I work in every area of a London hospital. Every little room and ward or department. On my feet all day auditing and spend an hour or writing reports at the end of the day.
I was office based but love being out and about

no, I’ve always been happy wfh and had good relationships with people I work with despite not meeting in person.
