Presents for a 6 year old

Botoxandrubberlips · 14/06/2024 19:13

Dd is turning 6 in a few weeks, we usually try to do one main, big present and some small ones, with the help of grandparents etc. This year I thought of a bike, however her bike from age 4 is still a good size and just needs the stabilisers removing and she can try without. Dh says she needs a brand new bike without stabilisers, but I don’t see why? It’s still in mint conditioner and her size.
We haven’t got a huge budget and I’ve sworn to myself to cut back this year as I always tend to spend so much
Any ideas for a special, main gift or any other ideas for a 6 year old?

Scooter?

WindowViper · 14/06/2024 19:23

Totally mad to get her a bike if she doesn’t need one! Save it as an idea fir next year if she grows?

Jk987 · 14/06/2024 19:28

Some sort of music player. You can get light up Frozen boomboxes, karaoke type ones- hours of fun!

CadyEastman · 14/06/2024 19:30

My DD loved Heeleys at that age.

You could always take off her stabilisers and get her a new bike at Christmas or next birthday if she grows.

NuffSaidSam · 14/06/2024 19:34

A Lego set

A massive bundle of craft stuff

Botoxandrubberlips · 14/06/2024 20:56

@WindowViper I know! Dh says he can’t get the stabilisers off it, but surely the stabilisers come off every bike 🤷🏻‍♀️It’s a Frozen one, still great condition, then I think maybe a bigger girls bike at 8, if it lasts

@TeaKitten She has a scooter already and does love it

@CadyEastman Whats Heeleys?

Yes I think she needs to practise without stabilisers on the bike she’s got and then maybe new one next year or year after (depending how fast she grows 😂)

What kind of things does she like?
Agree with pp, bonkers to get her a new bike if she doesn't actually need one!

Botoxandrubberlips · 14/06/2024 21:01

@GoodAfternoonGoodEveningAndGoodnight Well, all the things she likes/has asked for are little things really, so that’s easy to get and not too pricey, I’ll get some books too, summer pjs, we just normally get one *Main present-eg-a bike, trampoline etc for birthdays

Botoxandrubberlips · 14/06/2024 21:03

@Universalrehearsal Aww very cute, I remember her mentioning this one Christmas and the hedgehog interactive one and she got that one

Botoxandrubberlips · 14/06/2024 21:03

I got dd a 20 inch bike for her 6th. She already had no stabilisers from age 3 ( she was a dare devil stubborn little girl and outgrew her 16 and 18 inch
An echo dot as loves music.

Xmas was a gymnastics bar , crash mat and balance beam

Other items
Lego friends, squishmallows, clothes etc

Other mains that would be an idea, swingball, trampoline

Botoxandrubberlips · 14/06/2024 21:04

@NuffSaidSam Yes, I could add bits like that, she tends to get lots of little bits like that for Christmas

Botoxandrubberlips · 14/06/2024 21:05

@TippedOverTheGravyJug Big trampoline we got last year, swingball would be good 🤔

We got the mini for our two which was £59

Mummyofthewildones · 14/06/2024 21:06

Another vote for Yoto. So versatile, great gift.

TippedOverTheGravyJug · 14/06/2024 21:07

Also dd loves her basketball hoop, swing and slide. Any garden toy is a hit

CadyEastman · 14/06/2024 21:22

Swingball sounds great. If she has a Summer birthday I think that outside toys are probably the ones she'll get most out of.

ParentsTrapped · 14/06/2024 21:24

My 6yo is obsessed with his yoto, which he’s had since he was 3. It’s brilliant, and friends and family can get her cards for it and/or record themselves reading stories which she will love.

She's 6, so maybe I'm old fashioned but if she's happy with those stuff then why does she need a "big thing?
Honestly not meant as a dig but seriously at that age I'd have been happy with some books, some Lego and some colouring books and pens!
If you do want to get a bigger present too though how about something like a garden swing ball set like someone upthread mentioned, happy memory came back of playing with one of those in my nanna and granddad's back garden at that age 🙂
Everyone loves that type of thing.

SnugglyJumpersMakeItBetter · 14/06/2024 21:34

I had a wooden dolls house when I was 6. Still love it! Or how about a play kitchen? Or a slide for the garden? A folding one is good because you can bring it in during the winter and have it up in the living room sometimes to burn off energy! On the hottest summer days you can set it up going into a paddling pool or with a 'slip n slide'.

Oldermumofone · 14/06/2024 21:43

Ikea desk with the desk tidy stuff was a big hit.
