AIBU to ask for recommendations for a non foaming shampoo?

Have been using Loreal Low Shampoo for years, but they seem to have stopped making it.

I suffer with Eczema and this non foaming cream shampoo was the only one I could find where I could get away with washing my hair daily.

I am struggling to fond a non-foaming alternative shampoo which doesn't cost megabucks.

I am currently using an Aveeno shampoo which is SLS free and is supposed to be soothing to the scalp. It is produces a rich lather which seems to be exacerbating my Eczema. Even sulphate free shampoos seem to dry my scalp.

Just wondered if anyone knows of a cream, non foaming shampoo that is not ultra expensive?

@CreamShampoo Thank you! Is this a non foaming shampoo? I can't seem to cope with the foaming agents used even in SLS free shampoos.

I've never found it over foaming, but that's a personal preference thing.
They have 30% off at the moment so less than a fiver so worth trying maybe.
They also do a fragrance free one.
I also have eczema and have tried a few with no problems. I use their conditioners and also handwash.

Boucleme do a cleanser which is great - non foaming and sls free, technically for curly hair but worth looking at them even if you’ve got straight hair I reckon

My DD has a similar issue and uses Moo Goo.

I think you need to search for things like co-wash/ curl products, they seem to be the ones geared toward hydration and low-foam. Good luck.

Aleppo soap made of laurel oil works well as a shampoo and appears to helpful for some people who have eczema. Just don't get in the eyes as it stings

many conditioners contain enough agents to gently cleanse the hair without stripping it too much. I often use it instead of shampoo. You do need quite a lot though and to work it right down into the roots. I tend to use the cheap £1 apple conditioner (supermarket brand).

Summerhillsquare · 14/06/2024 11:43

Neal's Yard, all plant based and mostly organic, low foam and smells lush.

Stibble · 14/06/2024 11:45

You could try using soap nuts, you soak them then use the liquid. Although it’s a bit of a faff it’s very cheap and completely natural. Seems to work for somw hair types and not others but could be worth trying.

SocksAndTheCity · 14/06/2024 11:46

I used this after I got it as a gift and thought it was great (enough to repurchase), although I don't have eczema. It's a lotion and doesn't foam at all Smile

@orpmoa Thank you for this tip. I have Googled conditioner only washing and I think it could be a game changer for me.
I don't know how I got by before I discovered Mumsnet. 😀

I use faith in nature. It doesn’t foam

JaninaDuszejko · 15/06/2024 05:13

Do you know for definite it's the detergents that irritate your scalp and not the preservatives? I use Grüum shampoo bars and they don't irritate my scalp but most liquid shampoos and hair products do. My hairdresser told me that a lot of people are allergic to the preservatives in liquid shampoos. Might be worth considering.

Aleppo soap made of laurel and olive oil works quite well as a shampoo. Laurel oil has antifungal properties. More here www.alepposoap.uk/faq

Be careful with co -washing or conditioner washing. My curly hairdresser really does not recommend it after seeing so many scalp problems as a result. Shampoo is designed to clean whereas conditioner is often designed to laminate and coat. Strict co-washing requires you to scrub your scalp for 3-5 minutes to remove the residue, would that irritate your scalp further?
