It will have cost the public purse a huge sum to have put this GP in prison. Four years on from lockdown, she has gone to prison for non payment of a fine. The whole thing seems ludicrous.

It's a 14 day sentence, the way OP and others are carrying on, you'd think it was 2 years, she'll likely be out in 7 days!!

This is a very silly take.

It shouldn't be happening in the first place. The fining system was fundamentally flawed, and this court action plus prison is spaffing valuable resources on something both unjust and pointless.

LlynTegid · 14/06/2024 07:30

Two wrongs don't make a right.

Those in Downing Street in some cases should be facing criminal charges, including the former Prime Minister.

LlynTegid · 14/06/2024 07:32

As for unpaid fines, there are alternatives to prison that I think are not but should be considered. Deny someone a foreign holiday or take away their driving licence for a period would probably be effective, for many people.

Ginmonkeyagain · 14/06/2024 07:33

Ahh Freeman of the Land. Figures.

Those guts are nuts.

Given what we know now about excess deaths amongst the young and myocarditis/turbo cancers I'd say she was a hero. Her crime is to not go along with the bullshit.

Do you have any idea how ridiculous you sound wibbling on about turbo cancers 🤣

And what do we know? That having Covid renders a person many times more likely to develop myocarditis and for it to be longer lived than the minuscule number of cases from vaccines.

At risk groups - predominantly those in their 20s - were advised of the risks and likely symptoms. Treatment, for those who sought it, was highly effective.

Blood clots are 8 times more prevalent in Covid sufferers than those who were vaccinated.

Turbo cancers are simply made up, by people who should know better. There is no medical, or statistical evidence to support this conspiracy delusion, just a load of bullshit propaganda on YouTube etc.

Having read the article, she sounds unhinged and vexatious. But yes the principle of the thing is utterly wrong.

Agree. She sounds narcissistic. But I think any covid rule breaking fines hold zero weight now given the actions of the Government at the time.

While I might not agree with her sentiments, the woman is a GP of many years and clearly not a “moron”. And what sort of expression is moron anyway?

I don't think she's moronic, but she's clearly very deluded.

Scruffily · 14/06/2024 09:34

GeraniumsAndPoppies · 13/06/2024 23:36

Where is the benefit to the public for imprisoning this woman? Especially four years down the line.

This report says it costs £65,000 to imprison someone and £40,000 per year afterwards. https://www.fpe.org.uk/the-cost-of-prisons/

How is imprisoning a 67 year old doctor in these circumstances going to benefit anyone? It’s taking money from the public purse. Money which could be better spent.

Unfortunately it's gone way beyond the original issue. The point is that we can't have people saying they just won't pay penalties imposed on them and just shrug and say "OK then, no problem". There have to be consequences for flouting the law and ignoring legally imposed fines.

Scruffily · 14/06/2024 09:36

TheLadyOfTheFlowers · 13/06/2024 23:50

Who said that it was her that cared? Did she say that? CBA to read the article

But surely for someone like her, community service would be much better for all concerned. Get her to actually help in the community, not be jailed with the cost it entails.

Face it, she wouldn't do community service, would she? So what should happen then?

SocoBateVira · 14/06/2024 09:40

There's a solid case for a covid fines amnesty, and has been for some time.

Scruffily · 14/06/2024 09:40

Genevieva · 14/06/2024 05:35

It doesn’t actually matter whether she is unhinged or not. The law doesn’t discriminate. The ‘laws’ introduced on covid were secondary legislation rushed through parliament without the proper processes. They were entirely subject to primary legislation and, as they contradict some primary Acts of Parliament such as the HRA 1998, they were essentially worthless. Trying to pursue one or two members of the public when we know that the politicians and civil servants who created this legal mess were having parties after work without consequence makes a farce of the whole thing.

They were tested through the courts and found to be valid.

CormorantStrikesBack · 14/06/2024 09:43

Imprisoning people isn't just about a benefit to the public. It's also a punishment for the person who has broken the law.

AnneElliott · 14/06/2024 09:47

She sounds completely bonkers. It's a useful reminder that not all GPs (or other highly educated people) are always right/know what they're talking about.

I do agree in general that people shouldn't generally go to prison for non violent offences but if you make it clear you're not going to pay the fine the court has imposed then there's few other options. It's hardly likely she'd turn up for community service with all the freeman nonsense is it?

Everygrain · 14/06/2024 09:50

It's not the same, they paid the fine, she didn't

Pelham678 · 14/06/2024 09:58

Prawncow · 14/06/2024 00:08

It just goes to show that you can be educated and still be stupid.

Totally right.

She should have paid the fine but that wouldn't have given her the attention she craves.

That certainly rings true for me. Just after having Covid the first time (I had all the symptoms but didn't have the test as you had to be in hospital to get one then) I did a test to see if I had antibodies (I did). It took me ages to get any blood to flow as it was so thick at the time - normally my blood flows quickly when I have blood tests. I didn't have any similar effects post the vaccines.

Dr McCloskey accused court officials of "fraud" by entering a plea of not guilty for her in relation to the original offences.
The defendant went on to say she had been arrested on the foot of "a fake entity" - namely the Director of Public Prosecution who she said did "not exist in law or statute".
As the defendant continued to speak, Judge McElholm muted her microphone and said she was talking "nonsense".
He said he had never met the DPP personally but was pretty sure he existed.
The judge said he had given Dr McCloskey an opportunity but she had gone off on "a diatribe".

Do these sound like the words of a sane person?

you'll not get many people arguing with that

So all the GP's that have murdered their patients by giving an untested C19 vax (and died - current count by Dutch report is 32 million world wide - and inceacing daily) go free and one of the few GP's that spoke the truth is in prison? What sort of Legal System does that? Not one that I would agree with!

No - it sounds as if the Judge is off his mind for not dealing with the actual guilty party and refusing to listen to a very dedicated and sane GP. Oh, and yes, I know the lady in person and she is a very dedicated and sane person and a honerable GP, so I speak from 1st hand knowledge.

Sure.

She claimed the DPP wasn't real . That's not the sign of someone acting rationally

I am a consultant in the NHS for 30+ years and I can assure you that "Turbo Cancer" as a result of getting the C19 Jab are VERY real. Just look at the detailed Japaneese studies that are being released.

Put your head in the sand if you wish but time will prove this to be very true...
