To ask if anyone has had a nose job?

I've always wanted one. I already have filler to straighten it but it's just too wide for my liking and slightly uneven.
I know people in my life will try and talk me out of it but it's my life, my money and I want to like my nose, not constantly scrutinise it in the mirror.

Just interested to hear from anyone who's had the procedure, recovery time, pain levels etc.

No but my nose is very squint. Tell me about your experience with filler, please? I saw someone about it but they said the filler is likely to migrate and not stay in place on my nose but that it would natrually align to the squint bone and therefore make it look worse.

I've been getting nose filler for almost 4 years and it's never migrated. It just wears off after several months so have to keep going back unfortunately, but very happy with the results.

All I know from a friend who had it done is be prepared for other features on your face to change / your perception of them to change in relation to a different shaped nose (no matter how subtle).

Not to put you off it or anything but in her case the distance from her nose & lip changed & altered how her top lip moved. It wasn't noticeable until she pointed it out. It also accentuated the projection of her cheeks relative to her old nose - so that other facial features came to her attention that had not been an issue to her before.

These might all just be part of adjusting to how you & your features now look in relation to each other. To others however it could create more dissatisfaction/a need for further corrective procedures etc. Overall the benefits for her outweighed these aspects & she was much happier with how she looked overall. It's so subjective however, as to me privately it makes her look no "better" or more attractive. I always thought her natural nose suited her. So it is such a personal thing. If you do go ahead I would ask your surgeon about these aspects because I think she should have been consulted about them beforehand. It may be that she had quite alteration in both size & shape, so I suppose it depends a lot on how much you get done.

I had one 30yrs ago. Had it done on the first day of my annual leave and went back to work after the two weeks. Bruising had gone by then. The cast was on for about a week and taken off the same time as the stitches. My nose was numb for months and it took about a year for it all to settle down into its final shape. My taste was also muted for months.

CatsMother66 · 14/06/2024 00:11

Oh and there was no pain at all.

Back21970 · 14/06/2024 00:52

I had mine done 20 years ago, visibly bruised for about 4 weeks but I am very pale.

It was more uncomfortable than painful and took a while for the swelling and numbness to go away, but I was instantly delighted the minute the plaster came off though.

My nose was quite wide and long beforehand with a slight bump.

Afterwards not one person that I hadn’t told mentioned it although someone did ask if I had had my lips done as they looked bigger - like a PP says it can’t change the way other features look, I suppose.

I would recommend it if you really feel uncomfortable with your nose.

A friend of mine at the time suggested I get therapy instead as there was nothing wrong with my nose (there technically wasn’t, I just didn’t like it) so be prepared for those kind of comments 🤣

OlympicProcrastinator · 14/06/2024 03:36

Yes I had one about 5 years ago. My recovery was hard, over 6 weeks before bruising went away. Nose always running for months. However, it was life changing for me in a good way. No regrets over having had it done but my nose really ruined my face and aged me badly so worth it but it’s not for the faint hearted.

Iambetteroffsingle · 14/06/2024 07:09

Thank you so much for your replies!
People already think I need therapy because I've had some Botox so I can only imagine what they'll say if I go for this 🤣

I'm slightly different in that I had surgery due to a bad break not healing correctly, and I can honestly say that it was agony and took twice aa long to heal as the initial break did, the internal splints were the worst part of it all, and I still have some some breathing problems now.
Personally I would never go through that for purely cosmetic reasons, for me it's just not worth it, though I accept that others will feel differently

MiddleagedBeachbum · 14/06/2024 07:31

Yes I had one about 5 years ago, however it was only the tip, so no bone breaking / shaving.
The tip was too bulbous for my liking and the centre piece hung down too low, the surgeon just slightly made it all a bit smaller, literally it was so minute almost everyone I know has no idea I had it done but it actually makes a huge difference to the balance of my face and looks so much better.

I researched pre and post operative vitamins and bought an expensive but clearly great pack shipped from America and had slight bruising for a few days after and that was it! No pain and fully recovered within 1 week.

AmusedMaker · 14/06/2024 07:33

I paid £7000 about 8 years ago ( went to a top well know surgeon )
biggest waste of money ever.
not a single person noticed, which you could argue maybe there was nothing that bad with my nose in the 1st place, but I felt it hadn’t improved my nose. Maybe it’s slightly better, but It’s still what I would consider a big nose and definitely not what I imagined. Sorry, I know this wasn’t your question 😄

it didn’t hurt much no, and the bruising was pretty much all gone after 2 weeks.

You had to have a cast on your nose?

Back21970 · 14/06/2024 10:08

Wanted to add to my previous post that I got a recommendation from my doctor to a private surgeon in the Nuffield.

He wrote a letter and I got word back direct from them to make an appointment.

Knew I wouldn’t be eligible to get it done in the NHS but was concerned about going to an advertised clinic and wanted to be sure it was someone reputable.

Paid about £4000 from recollection but that was 20 years back so would maybe expect almost double now.

Yes if they have to break the bones (which is common) it looks like a cross between a giant white sticking plaster and a beak and goes great with the 2 black eyes. In some procedures (like mine) you even get internal splints to help the nose keep its shape and prevent the bone healing in a way the blocks the airway.

sunflowerdaisyrose · 14/06/2024 10:43

I had one for medical reasons - also had the cast and internal splints. I wasn't in much pain just a bit of discomfort - I couldn't breathe through my nose before anyway so still slept ok propped up for the first 10 days before the cast and internal splints/stitches were removed. This was by far the worst part but it was very quick - he had me sitting up but I asked to lie down which helped!!

Stayed swollen for a while and was paranoid about it getting hit but was ok.

sunflowerdaisyrose · 14/06/2024 10:44

I was also off work for two weeks, now I wfh I could probably go back after 3 or 4 days. They told me not to go anywhere for two weeks to avoid catching a cold or similar.

CatsMother66 · 14/06/2024 12:10

Forgot about the nose splints and the runny nose. As my nose was numb for months/year after, it wasn’t always obvious that my nose was running!
As a pp said, I was also paranoid for ages after, about getting my nose bumped.
It changed my life from a life of cruel comments that continued into adulthood to one where I could just fit in and not be seen. I always say I did it for sanity reasons not vanity reasons.

Back21970 · 14/06/2024 13:57

I forgot about the runny nose due to the numbness and being paranoid when anyone came close in case they bumped my nose!

It probably was like that for a few years but still a small price to pay

natashaps · 07/09/2025 19:33

Hi! I'm preparing to get mine done. Can you please share which vitamins you got? I have family coming from the US who could bring me goodies! Thank you
