Hiya,
I am in my late 40s. not that this matters, but these days I do not know where good clothes shops are?
I understand it depends on what I like, but i mean good quality, but not hugely expensive.e

I'm 59...but agree age is irrelevant.
I shop in COS, All Saints, Zara, H&M, other stories and a bit in M&S for basic pieces and then Sezanne, Marrant, Z&V and independent labels for more special bits with a few pairs of designer shoes and bags. Also love a bit of Vinted and Vestiaire Collective, especially for jewellery, jackets and coats.

StormingNorman · 13/06/2024 19:42

Zara, Sezanne, M&S, Reiss and John Lewis.

GreenPeasandMint · 13/06/2024 19:43

Yerroblemom1923 · 13/06/2024 20:28

Vinted. Rarely buy new. Just no need. Saves money and the environment.

roycroppersshopper · 13/06/2024 20:29

I've recently bought 2 items from Unfolded, an Indian cooperative. Its the furthest from fast fashion you can get I should think. So if you're looking for ethically produced stuff then they're worth looking at.

ladyofshertonabbas · 13/06/2024 20:31

Uniqlo.
Collectif- timeless!
Zara.

Misthios · 13/06/2024 20:32

Charity shops
Marks and Spencer
Uniqlo
Vinted

EatCrow · 13/06/2024 20:34

Can I hijack your thread please? And ask if anyone can suggest where I can get good quality, thick, long jumpers?

Luxell934 · 13/06/2024 20:39

Primark, H&M, Zara and Tesco F&F currently.

EdTeach · 13/06/2024 20:43

Killstar, Kate’s Clothing, Blue Banana, lots of Primark and TK Maxx. Always Levi’s for jeans, but only ever from the outlet shop!

Meadowfinch · 13/06/2024 20:50

@EatCrow Celtic & Co sweaters that are long enough for me - I'm 5'8".

They aren't cheap but if you hand wash them, they do last. Today's sweater is 4 years I think.

Guernsey Woollens do really thick sweaters. Less expensive but not as long.

Thank you Meadowfinch, I’ll have a look.

Vinted for literally everything other than underwear, I buy that at M&S.

Lokshen · 13/06/2024 21:32

There are no good shops nowadays, and in the physical shops they just NEVER have your size (especially you, M&S). I tend to trawl the charity shops...

Overtheatlantic · 13/06/2024 21:37

M&S and Poetry

passiveaggressivenonsense · 13/06/2024 22:16

Vinted, charity shops and I sew. I haven't bought anything new apart from underwear in 4 years. I made a conscious decision to only buy pre used items as the world is overflowing with stuff and the real price of clothing production is killing our planet. This is not a humble brag. I dress really nicely and often get compliments on my clothes.

2chocolateoranges · 13/06/2024 22:18

Mostly next and m&S however found some gorgeous clothes from Tesco for my holidays eg dresses, bikinis and shorts which I’m really impressed with.

I know a lot of people are saying Vinted but what are you searching for when you're on there? Which stores? Do you just look randomly at dresses or tops?

You can use the filters so if I wanted a dress, I might put 'dress' or 'long sleeved dress' into the search bar and then filter by size, colour and brands. You can pick more than one option so you might put 'jumper' and then select some of the brands recommended above.

Iwantmybed · 13/06/2024 22:59

Tu Sainsbury's
George Asda
Matalan
Primark
Bonprix
Boohoo
Ebay
New Look
TK Maxx

I hate clothes shopping and am losing weight so I'm picking up some cheap bits to tide me over. I think Matalan is my favourite at the moment. Clothes are clothes to me tbh, I suspect that expensive and cheap labels were made in the same factories. I've never had an issue with quality when buying cheap. I have some leather Chelsea boots that were £40 from Asda 7yrs ago that still look as good as new.

Whatineed · 13/06/2024 23:03

H&M, Mango, Zara, River Island, Zalando, Vero Moda & occasionally Asos & Next.

AlltheFs · 13/06/2024 23:10

I’m always genuinely astonished that people can find anything to fit in Zara. In all the years since it opened in the UK I have never found a single item I can wear. I am clearly not their shape. The only Zara I own is homeware! Similarly H&M, doesn’t fit.

I buy a lot from Next online but not Next brand IYSWIM. Roman fits me well, Threadbare, Fat Face, Friends like these, Love & Roses etc
