Electric car and in laws.

My in laws are here visiting in their new electric car. They’ve plugged their car in every evening for the whole week using an extension cable. Never once offered us money to pay for this, or even asked us - they just plug it in. If it was just one night of charge I wouldn’t mind, but every night for a week? They are wealthy and holiday all the time, we are struggling to hover above the breadline. How much does it actually cost to charge a car and why is it assumed that’s it’s ok to do this? It’s not the same as just charging your phone is it. Am I being cheap by letting this bug me?

Unless you have a dedicated charge port and tariff, its going to be standard rate ie. 25p per kwh.
Average Corsa is rated 50kwh & Teslas at 60kwh - so it requires 50kw x 25p or 60kwh x 25p = £12.5 to £15 to charge from empty.
Thats how they're running the car "'for free" ......get them told, freeloaders !

I had an electric car for a while - it almost gave me a breakdown - and I calculated it cost about €6 to charge empty to full. That was a couple of years back and based on cheap rate overnight electric. If I was you I’d ask the to charge it at proper charger!

Switch it off at night after they have gone to bed and get up first and switch it back on.

Ours is half that. 240 mile range.

CFs - would they help themselves to your petrol if you had that at home?

Could at least ask if it's ok and also offer to pay (and not be surprised/offended if you accept)
