Car number plate

I'm thinking of buying a dateless 6 digit registration/ personalised number plate.

I just want a nice neat 6 digit plate that I can keep and move from car to car. The actual digits don't need to have any specific relevance other than looking nice together.

There's one on offer which has my 2 digit house number within the 6 digits which I quite like.

I can't quite put my finger on why, but I have an idea this would be a bad idea - can anyone tell me why? Can't see that anyone could work out where I live from a number plate, but maybe I'm missing something as my instinct says avoid the house number one.

YABU - to buy a number plate with your house number in.

YANBU - there's no reason not to have your house number in your number plate.

Thanks!

Thanks everyone for your answers and views.

@SirAlfredSpatchcock lols!! I didn't know this! I do hope SH17 was released!

@ALovelyCupOfNameChange I think you may have hit on what was bothering me. Thanks.

@HappiestSleeping when I say 6 digits I mean letters and numbers. There are no legal plates in the UK which aren't a combination of both.

To those who are questioning why you would buy a specific plate at all - I live in a part of the UK where a lot of people are quite into cars and most people have more than one car. I always have particular types of cars - like limited editions if they're new or classic/ vintage.

People who are into cars for their engineering tend to have cherished plates and 6 digits are a favourite. It's a bit of an anorak thing and yes I am in some car clubs.

This is different from personalised plates like the K4T1E or N16EL type of ones which are beloved by people who like 'flash' cars. Those are very chavvy, especially when they're done up in gel plates and on cars that are obviously PCPed to the max like white Evokes!

Dateless plates start at about £400 (not £1k as suggested by one pp) and are common where I live, as I say amongst people who like their cars.

Sit back and think about how the hell anyone would work out where you live from the digits on a number plate?

Bad examples as they obviously can’t exist.

Where are you buying 3x3s for £400? I’m guessing they’ll be NI plates. Anything with decent letters are more like £2k-£3k upwards.

DVLA sell them starting at 100. You can often get lucky.

Oh mine is like this:

F21 LJA

F - my initial
21 - my birth day
L - DD
JA - DS

All details changed but every letter/number has some significance

They might start the bidding at £100 but the only ones that sell for under £1k tend to be NI ones, then you’ve got the fees on top, a plate which sells for £750 costs more than £1k all in.

But why bother?

Yup, that's why I said you can get lucky. You'd need to be but it's not unknown.

@FTPM1980 it was a birthday present from DH

My children love it, they're only wee - they say they feel special 🤷🏽‍♀️
