I have no idea what’s wrong with me and I’m scared.

I’m absolutely fatigued to the point I can barely leave my bed or the sofa
hairs falling out
constant almost motion sickness
dizzy when I stand up
parts of me are itchy
my menstrual cycle has changed
I get bloated when I eat food
oh and keep getting pins and needles in my legs

honestly I’m beginning to think it’s all in my head. No chance I’m pregnant, I’m 34 so don’t think it’s menopause, already take vitamins b12 and vitamin D. Is it a bug or am I really I’ll. had to write it down as otherwise I’ll keep googling which isn’t doing me an favours.

going to ring the doctors in the morning but knowing my luck it’ll be 4 weeks before they see me.

Oo interesting. Thank you. No thyroid issues in the family but I’ll see what the doctors say if and when I get an appointment. I seem to be losing weight Aswell currently which is unplanned too.

Tell the GPS you need an urgent appointment, losing weight is a red flag and should not be ignored.
Are you periods very heavy?

Overthebow · 12/06/2024 07:05

Make sure you tell the go receptionist that you’re unexpectedly losing weight. You need to be seen today.

Lourdes12 · 12/06/2024 07:05

Could be lots of things including a virus. Tick bite when you were in Spain?

whitebreadjamsandwich · 12/06/2024 07:07

What has changed in your menstrual cycle if its only been 7 days? Is your hair coming out in handfuls?

Alittlefrustrated · 12/06/2024 07:09

Ring 111 if GP won't see you. Could weight loss be because bloating and fatigue has put you off eating?

Beautiful3 · 12/06/2024 07:26

I had those symptoms too, but I also lost weight. It turned out to be my thyroid, it was over active.

sunlovingcriminal · 12/06/2024 07:29

Can I ask what your iron levels were when they were tested? The NHS has a very low level as the "okay" cut off, which is far from ideal.

fieldsofbutterflies · 12/06/2024 07:34

If you explain all your symptoms including the unexplained weight loss then they should see you today.

What's your diet like? Have you been checked for diabetes?

bigageap · 12/06/2024 07:35

Thyroid

Meetingofminds · 12/06/2024 07:47

I have these symptoms too, exactly the same. I will be interested to know. I thought it must be the after effects of a virus.

WonderingAboutBabies · 12/06/2024 08:51

It sound like Lupus, but also a mixture of other things. The pins and needles and dizziness are the most concerning, I would say, so definitely push for an emergency appointment. Call 111 if you have to.

VolvoFan · 12/06/2024 09:21

Don't wait for the GP, this is a 111 situation. I hope you feel better soon, OP.

ManicBuckEejit · 12/06/2024 09:47

Your symptoms sound like classic B12 deficiency, but the problem is that you've been taking a B12 supplement so that can mask an absorption issue. Basically, if you can't absorb B12 well orally, then a supplement will raise your blood result level but not help your symptoms. You would need to stop taking the supplement for at least a few months in order to get a true reading

I don't know how successful you would be, but I would try to talk your GP into trialling B12 injections to see if they improve your symptoms

Deebee90 · 12/06/2024 09:51

I’ve sent a message through for an appointment. In my GP they only do online requests and don’t answer the phone so will see if I get anywhere.

couple things people have asked,

my menstrual cycle changed from last month to come even earlier but I didn’t think anything of it and this past few days I’ve been spotting which is unusual for me.

my hair is shedding if that makes sense, I only have to run my hands through and it’s coming out in strands

im not celiac unless it can change in years as I got tested as a child due to having some food intolerances

the vitamin d I take is a standard over the counter dose I take and was actually Recommended by my GP about 12 months ago as I don’t normally get much sun.

The weight loss in my experience with relatives gets you an emergency appointment.

Iron deficiency with or without anaemia can cause most of the symptoms you've described, but sadly most GPs aren't that clued up. The "normal" range for ferritin starts at something like 13 and goes all the way up to something in the hundreds. But in reality anything bellow about 75 can cause symptoms, the lower you go the worse they are. So please check the actual number given for ferritin. HOWEVER iron deficiency itself is usually a symptom of a different underlying cause, which is important to determine.

My ferritin is high I’ve had that checked . It was about 100 when I got it checked .

Managed to get an appointment for half 3 this afternoon so fingered crossed 🤞🏻 I get some sort of an answer.

Good luck 👍

Deebee90 · 12/06/2024 17:11

I’m back. No news as such but she’s running urgent blood tests in the hope we get an answer. She did say my blood pressure and heart rate are normal which was a relief. Sadly she’s signed me off work for 3 weeks too as she said I’m in no fit state for work. So fingers crossed I’ll have an answer soon.

Could you have Addisons disease? This needs your cortisol levels checking and isn't picked up with routine blood tests.

Hope so OP. All the best. Sounds really tough going.

RosesAndHellebores · 12/06/2024 20:24

If your heart rate is normal, it's unlikely to be an overactive thyroid, that makes the heart and pulse race. My periods became further apart and more scanty before I was diagnosed.

I hope you soon get some answers and feel better soon.

Deebee90 · 14/06/2024 23:04

So bit of a weird one tonight, I had my bloods done this morning and just checked my app and my results on there. They’ve marked everything as normal. But on checking my red blood cell count is lower than it should be and my serum iron level is low. Obviously not a doctor but on searching it’s showing as iron deficiency anaemia which my symptoms do match. So I’ll be making an appointment Monday to speak to my GP. I know they’ll try and fob me off but I’ll be asking for some sort of treatment.
