Cheeky bugger tradies or reasonable to eat?

I have a tradesmen in the house (flooring/carpet fitter, not sure if that's technically a tradie)

I am in and out a lot throughout the day so said help himself to the kitchen for what he needs to use. I was thinking along the lines of tea, coffee, milk, kettle...

Anyway, he was taking a break and heated up some lasagna in the microwave. A left over lasagne in my fridge!

I was a bit surprised but asked if he liked it. He said yes thanks, was lovely. And then left his plate to the side, and did wash it up before leaving

The other person in my is my cleaner. She asked if she could shove some lollies in my freezer as she'd been shopping and they'd melt before she got home.

I said no problem, of course. I said be warned, I need to have a clear out so hopefully you find space

I returned home 1 hour later to the house cleaned as expected, but she'd taken things out of the freezer in different piles. Said what did I want chucking. When I made a little pile she was still stood there. And she chucked the lot in her bag and said 'I'll take it off your hands' without even asking

Surely it's better to ask?

Do I have CF tradies, is this normal, unusual? I am a little stunned

oh my god the lasagne eating one! That is so rude I’d be so shocked! Not normal behaviour!!
cleaner… hmmm maybe she should have asked but clearly sounds hard up!

PinkyBlueMe · 10/06/2024 20:17

Tradies? Confused
I think the cleaner was fair enough, as you said you were chucking it.
The guy was a bit cheeky but sounds like a misunderstanding.

EatCrow · 10/06/2024 20:18

You and your home seems very welcoming OP. Does your gardener have a key? ☺️

He had a can of coke with it too Grin he asked when he first came if there was something cold. I offered a can and he accepted

But helped himself to another coke alongside his lasagna

Don't really want to complain or feel I can as he's doing a good job

Both are very weird.

hopefully the CF Cleaner is a one off situation (wrt the freezer) & the carpet fitter will only be there a few days. Next time put the stuff on a tray & tell them help themselves.

No gardener. I live on a modest and small new build!

That's all appalling!! The cheek!! You clearly give the impression of being a lovely kindly person with a welcoming home. Which is great but both these people are taking the piss 😁

ManilowBarry · 10/06/2024 20:20

Your daily for offering without any stipulations.

No way would I be so free and easy with people I employ.

EatCrow · 10/06/2024 20:21

I had the handyman (incredibly unhandy) for five long hours in my home doing a job that should have taken 2 hours tops. It was an absolute nightmare (seriously weird guy) and ended up breaking two of the four blinds. I’d take your tradies any day.

Phew, I was worried about the leftover beef joint!

usernother · 10/06/2024 20:23

Tradies? Are you an Australian OP?

Crystallizedring · 10/06/2024 20:25

Both, sound a bit cheeky. Cleaner, not so much if you were going to throw the food away but she should have asked.
Carpet fitter was actually rude but I guess you did say help yourself to anything. Just be clear next time.i wouldn't care about the Coke but the lasagne would annoy me. Hopefully he won't be there much longer.

ShowerOfShites · 10/06/2024 20:27

He really heated up your lasagne and ate it?

TomatoSandwiches · 10/06/2024 20:27

He was rude to take a dinner like item from the fridge, I'd expect them to have any cold drink/tea/coffee biscuits or crisps left out but not a lasange.

I would probably offer the bits to my cleaner before she asked tbh so not too sure about that one as I hate waste.

SuperGreens · 10/06/2024 20:27

Cheeky fuckers taking the piss. Unfortunately they are everywhere now and you need to be very clear on what is acceptable and what is not.
Please help yourself to tea, coffee and milk.
Yes you can store your things in the freezer if there is space. etc.

ShowerOfShites · 10/06/2024 20:27

Yes. He did. I genuinely thought 'help yourself to what you need' meant kettle, tea etc. Not food

He also didn't ask if I was going to be eating it

The cheeky twats, both of them! You must be very kind/patient, but I'd certainly tell the carpet bloke only to have drinks! That's unbelievable. The cleaning lady, too.

Ginkypig · 10/06/2024 20:29

The lasagne is 😲 I’m very sure unless he had an issue with understanding that he knew fine you meant a cup of tea or a biscuit
although iv just had people in to fit a new boiler and did the same as you but I was more specific to make sure there was no confusion so i said if you want a drink there’s tea/coffee in that cupboard and there is juice and milk in the fridge just help yourself.
I did bring them back a doughnut each on the second day after I’d quickly had to run out to Lidl.

the cleaner though I really wouldn’t have minded if they snapped up freezer food I’d literally just told them were to be thrown out.
