To need a hand hold...just been robbed!?

That really. I feel such a massive mug.
I had mine and someone else's card on me and some cash. I'm more sad about the actual wallet. It was cheap but I had it for years.
Someone lifted it from my bag so it wasn't a horrible violent robbery but I just feel naked and stupid right now. And no access to money for several days for me plus another person.
Just wanted to get a bit of support as feeling so low. I've such anxiety going out the house and this shit happens..gawd.

TIA

I'm so sorry this happened to you. Have you made a report to the police? Just in case you dropped it by accident and it happens to get handed in. Or, they may come across it discarded and empty but at least you'll get it back?

BobbyBiscuits · 09/06/2024 23:08

@twoandcooplease thank you. I'm not bothered with the police honestly. They've been involved before when my mum was robbed and they worse than useless. It just makes me feel like an arsehole, lol.

You cancelled the cards, yes?

MotherJessAndKittens · 09/06/2024 23:11

You might need a crime report number so probably best to report it to police.

iateallthebiscuits · 09/06/2024 23:18

Sorry to hear this OP :(
Have you contacted the place where you last had it to confirm that it's not there?

BagFullOfNoodles · 09/06/2024 23:46

You can report online, if only to get a crime reference number, theft from a person is common and increasing in some areas, police are often targetting organised gangs/groups so might be more interested than you think, especially if there is CCTV in the area

Deathbyfluffy · 09/06/2024 23:51

If any money is taken from the cards, the bank won’t refund it without a crime reference number.

BobbyBiscuits · 10/06/2024 02:04

Thanks everyone. Luckily no money was taken and I cancelled both cards. I'm surprised they didn't try and use them, but I'm running with the theory they were junkies and got so excited there was cash in there, they rushed off to score with it then by the time they tried the cards I'd blocked them.
I'm feeling a bit better now. No harm done and really pleased it wasn't violent or face to face threat etc.
I think as there was no action on the cards I've not really any need for the police.
Really appreciate everyone's replies.

I’m so sorry this happened and I’m glad you’re feeling better. I don’t want to make things worse again but please at least report online to get a crime reference number. They could try to use the cards to identify themselves or cause trouble for you and someone else.

this. (and theft from person - not robbery)

BobbyBiscuits · 10/06/2024 02:39

Thank you, yeah I think you're right. I'll report it online to 101 as theft. I can't call it robbery as I didn't see them and they didn't have weapon etc. (thank goodness)

theGooHasGone · 10/06/2024 02:55

It's worth reporting it to police for the statistics, if nothing else.

Poettree · 10/06/2024 05:01

I'm sorry... I know how upsetting it is to be robbed, it can really get you down! They are very good at what they do. Get yourself a crossbody bag with a good solid zip and button and you'll feel much more secure next time. A relative I knew who grew up in a crime-ridden city used to clutch her bag at all times and treat everyone as a suspect.... I channel her now and it works!

Sablecat · 10/06/2024 05:16

I am very careful on bag selection I have it zipped up tight and usually zipped up in an inside pocket as well. It is a horrible feeling. If it's possible, and if there is nobody like a spouse to help out, I think it is good to keep a small stash of case well hidden at home in case of this sort of thing happening. I got robbed in a gym once and it just made me feel so angry and stupid and it was a very grim weekend and it was just lucky they didn't get my car keys. One of my colleagues, at a different gym, came back to the changing room to find somebody had made off with her new very expensive shoes.

ThinWomansBrain · 10/06/2024 05:56

Maybe worth contacting your bank to see if they have any facility for emergency funds prior to your new cards arriving?

Mammma91 · 10/06/2024 05:59

I’d report it to the police anyway Op, you may not get your purse or money back but CCTV may cover the area and whoever it was will be caught. I’m so sorry. How frustrating having no access to money. Is there anyone you could transfer money across to and lift from their account if you need cash? I hope there wasn’t a lot of cash in your purse. What kind of arsehole person is so brazen to steal someone’s purse.

Mammma91 · 10/06/2024 06:01

I dont know if you have already but just a reminder to report your driving license and all cards as stolen and make sure all cards (especially with the likes of contactless cards) are all cancelled and the theft is reported to the bank. Check all statements to be sure they haven’t used it before you cancelled.

Sorry oP but glad there’s no harm done either financially or in terms of physical violence.

fieldsofbutterflies · 10/06/2024 07:58

Money wise does your online banking have a "get cash" option for if you've lost your card?

With mine you can still take money out without an ATM - they send you instructions and a code.

Spinet · 10/06/2024 08:01

You can report it online op, and please do as it might reveal a pattern or be used as evidence if they go on to do something worse.

I'm sorry it happened to you though. It is horrid and makes you feel foolish even though it's 100% not your fault.

ISaySteadyOn · 10/06/2024 08:04

Sympathies, OP. I echo reporting to the police if just so they can note a pattern.

And it is 100% not your fault.

BobbyBiscuits · 12/06/2024 13:43

Thanks again folks, just to update. One person's card can be used now online. The other one has to wait a few days. But everyone's been really great and lent us a few quid to get us by so my faith in humanity is somewhat restored!
And I managed to buy my posh eyelash serum just before I got robbed so that cheered me up 😀
