What to do with the delivery

VERY long story short...

Well known bed / mattress brand has a great looking sofa bed, ideal measurements and great reviews. Even better ten days delivery.

Order mid March in time for Easter and guests staying.

Delivery timeframe been and gone, have been in correspondence with the company multiple times a week and after 2 months I ask for a refund, I get it and we move on.

Until two days later..

UPS deliver a HUGE parcel to our house. Unfortunately my husband saw my name on it and took it in.

It's an item from this company but nothing near what we originally ordered but must be worth close to a grand from googling the box.

I've been back in touch with their ridiculously shoddy customer service team, apparently a label will arrive at some point and UPS at some point but they can't give any timeframes and now I'm stuck with this huge box that I didn't order in my dining room with no certainty it will ever get picked up.

AIBU to put it by my side gate and email the company to say if they want to collect it they go ahead but if someone takes it it's not on me?

If it’s stolen it won’t have been collected though, and if you are leaving it out as an open invitation then I wouldn’t expect a refund (or delivery of my original item) in your shoes.
Your DH accepted delivery so you should hang on to it safely until collected.
I had to order a return recently that was collected via ups, the company couldn’t give a time frame but it was actually really quickly. UPS had the return label, I didn’t have to wait for one to arrive.

Edited

She's been refunded for her original purchase and this is a random order that she didn't place.

I'd be tempted to do the same OP. They only have themselves and their terrible communication to blame!

I agree with this. Op has nothing to lose (apart from the huge parcel in her house which she hasn't paid for).

I've had a refund - this item is their error. I couldn't care less if it was stolen at this point tbh

I don't know what your position is legally/consumer rights wise but I wouldn't like to risk putting it outside if your H signed for it or there is other evidence (photo or whatever) that it is in your possession. You don't want to be stuck with a huge bill for an item you never wanted but did accept, having never paid for.

VolvoFan · 09/06/2024 09:13

Tell the company you'll charge them £5 for each day that they fail to pick it up.

AlisonDonut · 09/06/2024 09:28

How huge?

I'd take some photos and post them on the social medias and tag them in, and take the roaring piss out of their customer service attempts. Tag in the CEO.
