I love monster the drink

I know . I assume they are v bad for you. Thing is they actually help my energy and mood. I've had half a one a bit earlier and have been buzzing around doing gardening and dishes and vacuuming . Usually I find it so hard to muster up the energy and motivation to do these things. I actually feel happy doing them after some monster. Just had the 2nd half and I'm raring to go. Going out to mow the grass and sort out the garden. Anyone else find them helpful? They improve my mood too which is strange really. I suppose it's not alcohol or drugs or fast food but I'm sure they are not healthy

Energy drinks have been linked to bowel cancer

ElleBelleLou · 08/06/2024 15:17

You're not alone - I am shamefully addicted to them and wish I could stop but I can't! I have a can of monster or a red bull 99% of days - it is very rare I go a day without one

I managed to stop for a while due to being investigated for heart trouble - I've since been diagnosed with an ectopic heartbeat with some more investigations coming, but I am back on the energy drinks which I know!

If I don't have one I find myself sluggish, tired, groggy and with such an awful headache. A few times I have tried to quit them but I just can't stick to it

I say to myself oh well I've never done drugs, I don't smoke or vape, I hardly drink and I eat relatively healthy so it's okay - but I know it's not, especially when sometimes with my heart I can feel it literally aching or hurting after finishing a can. I wish I could stop but the addiction is real 😩

Have a read about the link between energy drinks and psychosis.

Oh dear that does sound bad. I thought it was too good to be true that something that made me feel so good would be bad for me. I'm not exactly addicted yet. I don't have it every day. I save it for days when I need to get a lot of house chores done. My dd got me onto them. She used them when she was doing her a levels . They def help wit co concentration and focus. Is there a way to take the active ingredient in a natural form I wonder. Prob not lol

I don't like tea or coffee so am not used to caffeine so when I do have one, it really works and I get jittery and gut the house 😅 Messes up my sleep, but the house is clean, briefly!

But if you get addicted, the affect wears off and you need them just to feel normal. Some young people I work with seem to drink nothing but them which doesn't bode well- if you need stimulants to get through your 20s, just wait 😬

lol yes the "young people" in work drink them all the time. I love coffee as well but like the ad says the energy drink gives me wings! The garden is looking great ha ha

The thing I'm surprised about too is it really helps my mood. I suffer from depression and one of these just makes me happy. It's weird really.

Regular consumption can lead to heart problems too.

yellowsmileyface · 08/06/2024 16:23

They contain caffeine which literally is a drug. I understand you mean it's not an illegal drug, but you should be aware that it is a drug that can be highly addictive and bad for you.

If you're able to enjoy them in moderation, like maybe once or twice a week, then I'd say it's fine. But it's dangerous to get into the habit of drinking them everyday, especially as doing so would increase your tolerance, so you'd need to drink more to get the same effects.

kitsuneghost · 08/06/2024 16:43

What are you wanting from this post?
Someone to reassure you they are healthier than speed?
Not convinced they are.
You also seem to be very sensitive to them with may exacerbate issues.

Peonies12 · 08/06/2024 16:50

Caffeine is a drug. How can you put that rubbish in your body, how can anyone.

kitsuneghost · 08/06/2024 16:53

You will probably find it actually worsens your depression in the long run.

Devilsmommy · 08/06/2024 16:58

Can't say anything about caffeine intake as I'm a tea/coffee monster but the taurine is going to rot your stomach and heart problems will be along too.

ConsuelaHammock · 08/06/2024 17:01

One of my colleagues drinks around 3 a day. She doesn’t eat properly either. She won’t listen when we try to tell her how bad they are for her.

FuppinNora · 08/06/2024 17:58

You think it is helping your mood but in actual fact it is doing the opposite. It is giving you that quick high but then there's a crash. My husband used to drink one a day and it got earlier and earlier to having one, he was eventually having 1 after breakfast just to feel normal (after having coffee!! Madness). He also felt it lifted his mood but from watching him I would see him hitting a slump. Forget it if there was none in the house, he wouldn't be able to function. He has quit them now - his own choice, it took him a few weeks to not crave it.
I'd be worried about it in the fact it can put strain on youe heart.

It's literally just caffeine. Calm down

PrincessHoneysuckle · 08/06/2024 18:00

I have one can a day which is within the daily caffeine consumption guidelines.

greenwich23 · 08/06/2024 18:02

Guarana

Brewington · 08/06/2024 18:19

Caffeine makes me sleepy so I avoid energy drinks. DC1's friend use to drink about 4 a day when they were in high school. She gave them up and lost three stone.

OldKingCole · 08/06/2024 18:22

Ooh I’m always joking that I want something more than coffee but less than cocaine to get me through some days - this sounds like it!
However I suspect it may be actually worse than cocaine 🤔

Listengold · 08/06/2024 19:28

Granddaughter was drinking at least one a day of these drinks.
For some unknown reason she started to soil herself unexpectedly.
At 17 it's not cool.
Because the soiling came on suddenly she went to the see her GP.
He told her that these he was sure were the reason. Her BP was high.
She stopped drinking these straight away and the soiling has stopped and
her BP is now lower.

Vitamins and amino acid supplements might be considered healthy on their own, but that doesn't mean Monster is a healthy drink. Monster is not only packed with vitamins, it's also packed with a whopping 54 grams of sugar (via Healthline). This amount of sugar makes Monster drinks tasty, but it doesn't do anything in terms of energy. In fact, there's a good chance it'll cause your blood sugar to spike.

The zero-sugar Monster flavors aren't any better, as they rely on a chemical additive called sucralose instead, which is "600 times sweeter than table sugar," Livestrong reports. Unfortunately, that impressive number of healthy vitamins in every can of Monster won't cancel out either the artificial sweetener or the sugar.

Because all of Monster's energy-boosting ingredients — the vitamins and the amino acids — are already naturally occurring in the foods we eat every day, they function purely as supplements to Monster's 80 mg of caffeine per serving. Supplements by definition are only supplemental, not essential, so while they're not exactly bad for you, it's important to remember that too much of a good thing can sometimes be a bad thing.

This Is What Monster Energy Drinks Are Really Made Of - Mashed

In most cases, a long list of ingredients is bad news, but is that the case when it comes to Monster? Here's what's in this energy drink.

If they make you feel good I don't see any harm in it, some people smoke cigarettes, vape, drink alcohol and take class A drugs, we can't all be perfect all the time, there are risks with everything, even eating bacon can increase your risk of cancer. I have 1 red bull a day, I don't drink coffee or tea, it gets me through the day and I look forward to it, there are worse things in life.

pandarific · 09/06/2024 11:38

I also love these, but yes, they are not good for you.

I’ve had some success with matcha - sometimes though I don’t want a tea, so I stir it into a can of diet orange or lemonade. Does the job and at least I know matcha is great for you.
