Can hayfever cause hives?

DS has hayfever, asthma and allergies. Tonight he's been itching his eyes every so often but not loads and it doesn't seem to have been bothering him much. However in the last twenty minutes or so his eye has become really swollen. I put it down to his hayfever and didn't think much of it. But I've just checked on him and he now has three big lumps on the top of his eyelid. Could this be hives from rubbing his eyes a bit earlier or should I be worried he's been bitten or having a reaction to something else?

Yes, I get hives with hayfever if I don't take my antihistamines.

What hayfever meds is he taking?

He takes piriteze normally but stupidly I ran out a few days ago and because it's been a bit colder he hadn't had any for 3 days. I'll be going first thing in the morning to get some more

You might want to add some sodium cromoglicate eye drops (Opticrom or similar) into his routine, they really can make a massive difference for hayfevery eyes.

@Scampuss yes I think I will do after tonight. He's always sneezed and had lots of nose bleeds with hayfever, it also sets off his asthma but he's never really suffered with his eyes which is why I panicked a bit tonight. I always worry with face swelling!

Yeah, it's always a worry, my ds's went from 0-60 overnight when he was 3, it was scary.

I didn't realise how bad mine had got until I stopped my AHs before seeing an immunologist for my other allergies.

Hayfever is awful.

Yes, my DS has suffered terribly with hay fever every year up until this year, when for some reason it’s been a lot more manageable. Every year he comes out in hives at least once or twice, and it triggers his asthma too. I recommend you try fexofenadine, it was a game changer for us, it’s prescription only for children. It only comes in tablet form but the tablets are tiny and DS managed to learn to take them from 6.

My son is really suffering tonight and suddenly had a red itchy hand with white lumps under the skin. Assume these are hives because of the hayfever?
He takes fexofenadine which are supposed to last 24 hours but finds it runs out by early evening. He's just turned 18 so I wonder if he needs a bigger dose?
