which one do you have?

Some sort of Flymo. It's electric, sits on a charger and follows a buried wire around the garden.

UnaOfStormhold · 07/06/2024 14:34

We have a landroid, makes the garden look so much better with very little work. We have a pretty uneven lawn and it does tend to get stuck occasionally but we got it some different wheels that grip better so it only needs rescuing occasionally.

You really can't see clippings at all - even less than you'd get around the edge of a traditionally mowed stripe.

If getting one second hand make sure you get the paperwork as there's a bit of security to stop people nicking them.

Robot lawn mowers are a great danger to hedgehogs.

BruceAndNosh · 07/06/2024 14:47

Our golf club has just bought one. I can't see how a robomower is going to cut 18 holes of fairways... it takes our one 2 hours to do our little lawn!

SlipperyLizard · 07/06/2024 14:58

@UnaOfStormhold which wheels did you get? Our uneven ground can pose a bit of a challenge to our landroid.

SausageinaBun · 07/06/2024 15:04

We have one, but it seems to be out of action most of the time due to someone putting a spade through the wire.

Do you usually end up looking like this?

to splurge on a robot lawn mower
crayfishyum · 07/06/2024 15:17

the risk to me is death when it comes to mowing due to electrical shock or mangling a limb

OP posts:
crayfishyum · 07/06/2024 15:18

and given i’ve never once in 18 years since a hedgehog in my garden

i am willing to suck up the risk of causing harm to one

OP posts:
crayfishyum · 07/06/2024 15:19

Do you drive? because every time you drive a car don’t you pose a risk to young child running out without thinking?

i see the car as the robotic mower and the young child and the hedgehog!

I've got a lawnmaster one and I can't see how it would harm wildlife because of the sensors it has... Eg. if my dog has left toys in the garden it stops an inch or so before them and turns around. I

Lawnmaster VBRM16 was £300. I rate it for my garden yes.

I have a garden with no obstacles like trees, stepping stones, paths, and clearly defined edges ( it senses border plants and turns away from them). If yours is like this, fairly flat surface (I filled in a couple of larger dents with turf as wheels got stuck) and about 120sqm or less I reckon it would work well.

I watched it the first time to see how it handled different areas, corrected a couple of things as above and now just turn it on outside and leave it to get on with things. It bumbles around for about 4 hours before the battery dies and I bring it back in and the grass will be entirely done in that time.

I put it out about twice a week and d strim edges maybe every 10 days, as it can't do right up to the edges.

crayfishyum · 07/06/2024 15:36

thanks so much

would you consider posting a pic of your garden so i can see similarities with mine?

OP posts:
suggestionsplease1 · 07/06/2024 15:38

I think some people have reviewed it as being fine for 200sqm gardens 🤷‍♂️. It certainly goes over my 100sqm lawn multiple times before the battery dies.

You might find you need to put it out every couple of days over summer to work best.

Ours has a hedgehog safety mode so it doesn't go out after or before a certain time. We do have hedgehogs in the area but I've never seen any sign of them being damaged - we also have the optical collision protection.

@SlipperyLizard I think it's these
