I know of a couple with 3 children who are currently living in a new apartment provided by the city I live in. On the paper none of them works but they are both working full-time. Her husband bragged infront of the school about holiday plans to a luxurous resort for one month (!) and I just wanted to tell him to alleast have the decency to shut up about it. They get child benefits but also benefits from not working as well as housing benefits. This has nothing to do with me and it's not like I'm going to report them but does he have to rub it in? OK, Im jeallous, we cant afford to go anywhere this year but at the same token we arent stealing tax payer's money either so we can look ourselves in the mirror every day. What do you think ? Would this annoy you too or is it just me?

If this is true, they will get found out. I knew someone who got done for benefit fraud and they had to pay it all back. Over £40,000. I didn't even know about it until it made the local news.

No dont report them, don't be one of them people... Live and let live.. you never know what people are really going through

🙄

Doesn't matter what they're going through. If they're stupid enough to tell people, then they deserve to get reported.

Yes, and they'll get found even quicker if the OP reports them.

Report for benefit fraud (if true)

My ex best friend was saying she was a single parent and not working, whilst her DP was actually living with her FT and they were both working cash in hand jobs.

So they got benefits and 2 decent wages coming in.

I was a single parent working FT time and struggling to pay my rent each month, whilst they both had cars, went on holiday regularly and always bragged about how much cash they had.

It’s one thing to do it, but it’s so shitty to brag and laugh about how good you’ve got it.
(Especially when they knew I was struggling as a real single parent).

I was definitely jealous and bitter about it and I’m not ashamed to admit it.
Because it’s people like them that give people who do need to claim a bad name and those that genuinely need it are sometimes not given it or have to jump through hoops.

You will be told you are making this scenario up in a minute because according to some people on here there's no way people like this exist 🤨 so stop benefit bashing or being goady will you lol

I know some people who are fiddling the system but I'm probably just making it up too lol it does feel wrong when you see it happening though and especially when you are struggling yourself and are an honest person who wouldn't do that

I tend not to let these things bother me. I know someone who claims to live with just her kids. Claims UC, kids get free school meals etc. Partner has thousands in savings and isn't officially living with her.
They spend way more than we can afford on holidays.
I get my satisfaction out of being honest and let them get on with it. It's wrong but feeling jealous will not do you any good or stop people living like this.

LakeTiticaca · 06/06/2024 19:58

Benefit fraud. Report them

LaurieFairyCake · 06/06/2024 20:06

There are so few cash in hand jobs now

I literally know no jobs like this anymore. Everyone I know pays their cleaner by bank transfer 🤷‍♀️

TinkerTiger · 06/06/2024 20:17

Sure sure sure sure sure

bridgetreilly · 06/06/2024 20:18

Either report them or don’t, but don’t waste headspace on other people’s lives like that.

Maria1979 · 06/06/2024 20:50

Well, it is sort of my business since we pay taxes that pays for benefits...I'm all for benefits for THOSE WHO NEED THEM. And I know for a fact that they get SSDI due to mental health issues. Again, no problem. But they are holding full time jobs. The woman in the household confided in her neighbour who is a single hardworking mum. She told me about it and asked if I thought she should report them. I said no, because there are children involved and I dont want them to struggle with eviction etc. I didnt think anymore about it until the husband started bragging about their summer holidays..

If your story is true, all you have to do is report the fraud.
