Afternoon Tea - how can anyone eat it all?

I've been looking at things to do next weekend. Looked on Wowcher, Groupon etc. A regular offer is Afternoon Tea for two. Whilst it looks lovely, they regularly feature about 6 sandwich corners each, a few savoury items and FOUR cakes each. I love my food, and I like cake, but there's no way I could eat all of that in one sitting. Can anyone eat four cakes in a row? Are we meant to take a doggy bag?

Technically you were stealing. In the UK you do not buy the food but the serving of it and the place into which to eat it. If asked, doggy bags can be provided, but it's not a right.
But I would have thought three of you could have eaten an afternoon tea.

Can you quote the law that says that? Because it’s not my understanding other than in regard to specific ‘all you can eat’ buffets where you are limited to what you can eat at the time.

For any other food, the restaurant can decline to provide packaging but I thought the law was that you have purchased the food and can remove it from the premises if you choose.

The running fox Northumberland does a gigantic afternoon tea. It could easily be shared between 3. Other places you need 2 to fill you up

Just book it at either lunchtime or dinner time. At The Ritz you can book 11:30 am or 1:30 pm (lunch) or 7:30 pm as a dinner. You can also book mid afternoon, which is traditional, but it’s unlikely you’ll be very hungry then.

No, I am not a lawyer. I know however that there is no right to take the food left-overs home in the UK, so the restaurant may refuse, or say they have no containers, whereas in e.g. the US there is a right to take it home - because of a difference in what you are buying.

I can be hungry/enjoy an afternoon tea at any time of day, and regardless of whether I’ve had lunch and/or dinner.

HTH.

So you don’t actually have any sort of source? That’s just your opinion? Why do you think that, then? You may be right but if I pay for X amount of food, surely all of the food is mine?

Skip lunch and probably a light dinner if at all. I don't usually have any problem finishing though. The cakes are tiny and I've always got room for a bit of cake (this is why I'm fat haha)
