Feel so bloated and wobbly despite eating the right amount of calories

I am very active and my TDEE is around 2150 calories a day, which I usually eat. Well anything between 1900 and 2200 usually.
Yesterday I climbed a mountain and it took me 6.5 hours including breaks with steep inclines.

Due to the amount of calories burned I consumed around 2700 calories, mainly sugary foods admittedly.
I'm not sure why but today I feel like I'm bloating all over, including my face. My stomach in particular is very bloated but I feel clearly heavier compared to yesterday, it's not due to periods as that ended several days ago.

Also, it would take a lot more than an extra 500 calories in one day to even gain 1lb. The bloating depresses me as it happens a lot, it always makes me convinced I've gained weight even though I stick to my TDEE.
Does this happen to anyone else? I'm 33.
I can see a visible increase in my size overall since yesterday and the day before.
I weigh 8st 12-9st I mean I tend to hover around this and I'm just under 5'7, so I know my BMI is healthy and if anything on the low side.

I think it's the change in altitude that makes you feel like that.

Try to rest and take it easy today, if you can.

That's a good point, I didn't think of that, thank you.

What was your fluid intake like?

Lots of exercise and lots of sugar would require lots of water, are you dehydrated?

Admittedly it probably wasn't enough. I'll try and drink a bit more today.

Don't worry it is probably inflation and fluid, I weigh more when I have lifted heavily or done a lot of hard endurance activities

Handsomesquidward · 02/06/2024 17:06

That's good to know, just a bit depressing when you've done all that hard exercise 🤣

Plus the carbs will hold the water, when I drop carbs pre weigh in for a fight (I compete at a weight) I can shed 2kg in 3 days.

Don't worry about it Smile

You’re probably a bit dehydrated. Try some dioralyte

Gettingannoyednow · 02/06/2024 17:38

If the bloating happens a lot it might be worth keeping a food/symptoms diary for a while, see if you can pin down a suspect. There's some decent apps for it.

PatienceOfEngels · 02/06/2024 17:42

What did you eat?

If I eat lots of sugary foods, UPF, bread, then I will always look and feel shit! That has much more of an impact on me than eating high calories from whole foods.

Meadowfinch · 02/06/2024 17:48

I've found that white bread and anything with white flour in makes me bloat - cakes, biscuits, white pasta.

When I eat wholemeal bread/pasta/couscous I'm fine.

Did you just eat too much processed rubbish? Does it for me every time.

Yep, probably that unfortunately! Ahh well.

Carbs cause bloating by water retention
Exercise causes water retention around the joints
Dehydration, body trying to hold onto water
Altitude issues
Was it hot, did you get a bit burnt on the face? Bloated face

Proteinpud · 02/06/2024 18:13

I get the same after long intense exercise like hiking. Not sure if it's the exercise itself, or if it's the type of foods I'm eating to get through it (eg I tend to eat things like sweets, flapjacks, dried fruit etc which I don't often have). It'll be temporary, try not to worry about it! And as others have said, drink more water to help with the recovery.
