Woken at 8 am this morning by banging and clattering in front of the house.

Oh joy - next door (we are both detached) are having scaffolding going up.

It's a noisy job at best but they've been at it now for 3 hours. The radio is on full blast and they are singing along tunelessly at the top of their voices. If they are not singing they are shouting and swearing using language that would make a sailor blush.

It's the first sunny warm Sunday we've had this year but I have all the doors and windows shut and I can still hear every word.

Really fed up. There's no point complaining so I have to lump it but I am full of hatred for them at the moment.

A complaint about what? Shock horror someone has dared to get work done to their house? Yeah complain immediately how dare they get their roof sorted.

Did you not read the OP? The issue is not the work itself, it's that the scaffolders arrived at 8am on a Sunday morning, playing loud music and swearing copiously.

Because noisy building work isn't allowed to be done on Sundays by law, maybe?

The law says speak to them and ask them to reduce the noise. They were spoken to and the radio went off and noise stopped. What's left to complain about, and what will you gain from it?

Well, maybe they'll stop working illegally in the future if they get a formal complaint about how they broke the law.
