To Ask DH To Open The Bedroom Window?!

RabbitsRock · 02/06/2024 09:48

It’s a silly thing but we always seem to fall out over it. DH sleeps on the right & is next to the window ( literally a step away). Yet when I ask him to open the window because the room is getting warm, he moans & says if I want it opening then I should be the one to get out of bed & go round to open it. My argument is that he’s right next to it so he could easily save me the bother. AIBU?

Of course he should do it, how mean

RabbitsRock · 02/06/2024 13:44

CJ0374 he can’t reach the window from the bed

Switch sides. I did because menopausal body heat made me want to be beside the window and have the crisp air winter or summer.

Fiery30 · 02/06/2024 13:55

Asking him to do it once is perhaps ok but if you regularly ask him to get up and do it, then it's on you. It's unreasonable for you to get irritated.

Then you get out of bed.

Don’t stand in front of the cooker or you’ll be saddled with making tea

Then YABU.

We snipe in a similar way about our kitchen and utility room windows.

I can't reach them without getting onto the stepladder because I am a real short-arse and the sinks of each room are right in front of them.

I don't mind using my stepladder when I'm on my own. DH however, is over six foot tall and reaches them with ease so I do like to ask him if he is in the room. To be fair, he does open/close them after he has finished having a good moan. 🤣

I need him to get stuff down from the very top shelves of the kitchen cupboards too. 😉🤣 He does it, with minimal moaning and we end up joking about it eventually.

How is that mean, maybe op is mean for expecting her DH to get up and out of bed to open the window she wants opening which she could do herself but wants him to do it to ‘save her the bother’

wizarddry · 02/06/2024 14:44

Swap sides

And she thinks it’s fine to bother him!

VJBR · 02/06/2024 15:23

Good grief. Of course you shouldn't expect him to get up. Why on earth should he? If you wanted a glass of water would you expect him to do that too?

kitsuneghost · 02/06/2024 15:27

You want it open then it is you who should open it.

CountingCrones · 02/06/2024 15:30

You are ridiculous to expect him to get out of bed and open the window because you want it open. It’s a matter of about 3 metres for you to do it yourself.

When he’s comfortable in bed and you’re the one wanting to turn lights off, open windows or whatever else, you should be the one to do it. If you were in bed and he wanted those things, he should done them.

You’re being lazy, OP

AgileMentor · 02/06/2024 15:32

I’m with him, you want it open you open it.

Choochoo21 · 02/06/2024 17:57

You want it open - you open it.

As a PP said, if this is a regular occurrence then why not just switch sides.

FuckTheClubUp · 03/06/2024 14:57

You want it open, you’re the one that needs to get up and open it. YABU for expecting him to get out of the bed when you’re the person who wants it open.

Why can’t you just switch sides? Or let me guess, you still wouldn’t want to get out of the bed either!
