Vans parking outside my front gate on the pavement

I live on a road with isn't a one way street but the road leads back to where you started. Mixture of social housing mean for elderly people or family accommodation. Quite street.

Vans have started to park outside my house, on the pavement. It makes it very difficult for me to get out with the buggy and it's an annoyance to other drivers.

Usually people park where the blue car is - out of the way.

I think it's my neighbours workers/friends/whatever as he's a builder.

What do I do? I don't want them to do something to my house/property but it's inconvenient.

On the other side of the road they wouldn't have to park on the pavement and wouldn't block the sight of traffic for other roads users.

I'm thinking of getting cones and putting them outside my house.
.thoughts ?

If its a public road then they are entitled to park there, but they are not entitled to park on the pavement. It looks as though it woukd be very difficult to get a buggy put of your gate.

I'd put a polite note on the windscreen pointing out that they are blocking your access.

BabyRainder · 02/06/2024 04:10

I'm worried they will know it's me and target my house?

Also it's various vans

Do it anyway. Thats SO unreasonable.

lovemyboyz247 · 02/06/2024 04:46

You could leave a note asking them not to park on the pavement. They won't know who left the note then. If it's different vans, leave a note each time asking not to park on the pavement. It could be from any of the residents on the street.

Harassedevictee · 02/06/2024 05:19

@BabyRainder contact the council and ask if they will paint a white H on the road. This should stop them blocking the gate.

are the rye wheels on the pavement?

Fraaahnces · 02/06/2024 05:41

Bird feeders. Accidentally “sow” some seed onto the car every day it’s there.

lemonmeringueno3 · 02/06/2024 05:46

I think I'd start with a polite note asking them not to park on the pavement.

They won't know it's you, and even if they do they are unlikely to get angry about a polite request. They must know that they shouldn't be parking like that.

heretodestroyyou · 02/06/2024 05:54

I would also leave polite notes initially but if it carries on call the council.

Don't put cones out, they'll just drive over them or take them.

fieldsofbutterflies · 02/06/2024 06:16

Pavement parking isn't illegal everywhere. On our road, we are told to park on the pavement as otherwise there's no room for emergency vehicles.

Check to make sure that's not the case where you are.

rwalker · 02/06/2024 06:19

Just leave a note explaining you can’t get your buggy out
people are more amenable when there’s a valid reason

So wrong when people like OP can't get out of her house

fieldsofbutterflies · 02/06/2024 06:47

@Idontjetwashthefucker I don't necessarily disagree but the issue is that most roads aren't designed for the level of traffic and number of cars around today.

The vast majority of roads in my little town have pavement parking on one side as otherwise you can't even drive a car down them, let alone an ambulance.

They tried banning it but soon realised people had no other option:

Petrescuemum · 02/06/2024 06:50

Putting cones out will not only anger them it will anger literally everyone else

Goldenboysmum · 02/06/2024 06:57

If they are company vans with a phone number, give the company a call.

Explain the situation and ask them to ask the drivers not to park on the pavement.

I don’t think any reasonable person would target you on the back of a polite note. It’s not like you’re making an unreasonable request. Unfortunately some people (I hate to say it, but usually van drivers) just don’t see what they’ve done is inconsiderate, and if you pop a polite note on their windscreen asking them to leave your gate clear so you can navigate a buggy, they might realise the problem and park elsewhere. I’d try this one first before moving on to the next stage - slashing their tyres…….

Crumpetsssss · 02/06/2024 08:35

A polite note “Hi, please avoid parking across my gate. It makes it impossible for me to get out of the house with a buggy. Thanks” is surely the first step?

Then a ‘no parking. Access required’ sign on the gate?
