Neighbour playing loud music

Lucyloo223 · 01/06/2024 22:40

Next door neighbour (terrace) has been playing loud music all day. Think heavy bass. They are in the garden, loud shouting laughing etc. Want to go to sleep, would I be unreasonable to knock on and ask them to turn it down?

Is this a common occurrence? If not I wouldn’t bother yet, it’s before 11 on a Saturday night in a terrace house.

IwishIdidntlikesugar · 01/06/2024 22:46

You wouldn’t be unreasonable at all but what kind of people are they?

I don't expect it'll stop on the next ten minutes so do you think if it's after 11 it's okay? I just want to sleep :(

They're okay, I just find this kind of thing hard

If you feel able then i would just go now before you get too wound up about it (though im sure you already are).

Lucyloo223 · 01/06/2024 22:53

Not wound up, just fed up!

Noise nuisance can occur at any time. It's a misconception to believe it's after 11 only. Extremely loud and bassy without warning is not on. As a one off I might leave it but if it is regular at any time I'd complain.

HemmAyes · 01/06/2024 22:54

It's a Saturday night so I would go round at 11pm and ask them to turn down music as you can't get to sleep.
For added weight to your request you could go round in your pyjamas

ThursdayTomorrow · 01/06/2024 22:54

They sound very inconsiderate OP. I would hate the loud music all day.
You can ask them to turn it off/down, but are they the sort of people that would listen? They don’t seem to care about others, otherwise they wouldn’t be playing loud music in the first place.

Whatjemimadid · 01/06/2024 22:58

It's so hard when you're so fed up. Perhaps s polite request to turn the volume and bass down would be ok as it's quite late and you need to sleep. As politely as poss to avoid escalation. If they're unhelpful just take a deep breath and walk away. From experience I know it's not worth letting this getting to you too much

Lucyloo223 · 01/06/2024 23:10

I've just been round and they just said it's Saturday night and they've got friends over. I'm so tired and have period pain just want to sleep :(

Do you have ear plugs or noise cancelling headphones? Neighbour noise is a pain but I think it's just part and parcel of living in a terraced house unfortunately 😞 I speak from experience!!

They sound horrible. I hope you will be getting up early tomorrow and doing some hoovering, the skirting boards in your bedroom will be needing special attention.

I remember someone a while ago sharing a YouTube link to some women ulalating and suggesting playing it on repeat if your neighbours are noisy. This isn't the link but should do the trick. Warning it is very piercing!

I think all my pots and pans need reorganising at 6am!

Play some whimsical folk music or Gregorian chanting on full volume from 5 am next as close to where they sell as you can get.

Whatjemimadid · 01/06/2024 23:29

Urgh. What selfish so and sos. I'm sorry.

Easipeelerie · 01/06/2024 23:30

If it becomes regular, keep a log. My local council came out and measured the decibels then wrote to the neighbour telling them to stop the noise.

Whatjemimadid · 01/06/2024 23:30

Perhaps a few pictures might need hanging in the morning too. Or a shelf. With a drill

SquashPenguin · 01/06/2024 23:32

Start playing music right back at them at 6am. It’s shit when people can’t show the tiniest bit of consideration. Turning it down at 11pm isn’t much to ask.

Sockmate123 · 01/06/2024 23:34

Oh gosh, so did they say they won't lower it even? There are so many inconsiderate people around, I speak from experience 🙄

MonsteraMama · 01/06/2024 23:50

I have some excellent experimental acid jazz albums I could recommend if you want to counter with something even more obnoxious and annoying?

Ciphermind · 02/06/2024 01:23

what time was quiet ?

Log with your council, I had this issue and I downloaded an app called the noise app and sent recording direct to my local council.

It went on for a few months music till 3-4am it was awful but thankfully the council sent letters and they soon left
