Virgin media ripping off pensioners

I am fuming!

My DF is 80 and very independent. He recently complained about virgin media being expensive so I've had a look through his account and found out he signed himself up for an 18 month contract which includes a Sky package and an O2 sim.

Yeap, they do this to every person they can. I have signed contracts with yhem and suddenly my direct debit has gone higher than a kite!
To be honest, I have concluded that they should not be allowed in business. They are not honest.
Put your dad on another company.
Not sure you will get any money back, but definitively try via citizens advice.

Tbh i think they are all as bad as each other I have had sky ,virgin media and I'm currently with EE ,the seem to shoot up after the initial deal ends .

The calls should have been recorded

Put in a complaint & request for Virgin to access the calls

This is the kind of question it could be worth putting to the company on twitter for them to answer publicly. I bet it happens a lot - likely with some minimum wage call taker being pressured to sell/commissions and if we're being generous maybe they're not considering the age/vulnerability of the customer they're talking to.

Good idea. They won't want bad publicity.

My mum was paying over £50 a month just for telephone & broadband until I pretended to be her & negotiated a better deal, I got it down to £30 a month.

My niece did the same for my Mum.

XenoBitch · 06/09/2024 22:33

Not just pensioners.... but people who struggle to manage their own affairs anyway. I am paying £57pm for broadband so slow it is not even advertised anymore on their website. No TV/extras.
It is cheap for 18 months than doubles in price overnight... and they rely on people who struggle to manage stuff that keep paying the high prices. Being a loyal customer ends up costing you loads.

This also happened to my mum. She had sport and movies and all sorts when she can barely work out how to put the TV on. I managed to get the cost down a bit but not enough. I will try again though.

Also when I phoned Virgin to tell them my dad had died the person I spoke to called me by my dad's name throughout the conversation.

Contact the Ombudsman with any problems. Brilliant at sorting things.
