Not to boil these?

How would you cook these potatoes to ensure the flavouring isn't lost? My mother said to boil them but surely that will wash the coating off?

Are they not already cooked?

You could roast them?

BiddyPop · 01/06/2024 11:42

Roast them - they're designed for that.

I might consider steaming as an alternative but definitely not boiling!

NeverDropYourMooncup · 01/06/2024 11:43

I'd steam them - I think they're nicer steamed than boiled because they're not 'wet' that way.

MolkosTeenageAngst · 01/06/2024 11:44

are they completely raw? I have bought potatoes like this which are pre cooked so only need to be microwaved.

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 01/06/2024 11:45

I think you will find that on the reverse of the label there might be cooking instructions. Try to peel it off carefully. I think they might be partially cooked. Or certainly microwaveable. I agree you will wash all mint off if you boil them.

Whatineed · 01/06/2024 11:45

They look as if they are coated in oil or butter ready for roasting in the oven or air fryer.

DoAWheelie · 01/06/2024 11:47

Roast them or pop em in an air fryer I'd you have one.

Never tried mint potatoes before though - I'd love to give them a go with a nice big slab of lamb. Where did you get them?

mrsbyers · 01/06/2024 11:50

Bolams !

I would steam them

SinnerBoy · 01/06/2024 11:51

Bolams !

Tsk! Is there any need for that sort of language?#

... I second steaming them.

Buy a jar of mint sauce, stir a spoon on it onto your potatoes (after steaming or before air frying

YourWinter · 01/06/2024 13:07

Why do producers even think it’s a good idea to coat potatoes with all that… stuff? When did it stop being simple to do potatoes, salt, butter and mint?

Boiling might remove some of that… stuff… and you could add your own butter and mint!

Then I'm stuck with the rest of a jar of mint sauce that I'll never use up as I rarely eat potatoes.

I'd rather buy something like this as a one off to try.

wizarddry · 01/06/2024 17:08

Roast them or perhaps mash?

Oh no not mash you'd wash all the mint off

AlltheFs · 01/06/2024 17:09

We steam them, but then we always steam rather than boil veg. We have a 3 tier steamer.

bridgetreilly · 01/06/2024 17:20

We always used to put mint in with new potatoes when they were being boiled. I can’t remember when or why we stopped. But if they’ve also got salt and butter, definitely roast them.

BobbyBiscuits · 01/06/2024 17:23

Steam then in an inch of water in mic?
Are they parboiled already? It does seem a bit daft. I guess the minty flavour will infused in the water and some will get stuck on when you drain them, even if just conventionally boiled?

MonsteraMama · 01/06/2024 17:24

I'd steam them. Or crush and roast if they're already cooked, I bloody love crushed roasties. All the crispy bits. Mmmmm.

Or just shove them in the microwave 🤷‍♀️

PickledMuffin · 01/06/2024 17:27

I'd say steam or microwave?

Because it means people will pay £1.79 for 50p worth of potatoes.

Comedycook · 01/06/2024 17:52

Are they partially or totally cooked? Or literally raw?

I'd probably put them in the air fryer
