AIBU to want the bathroom I paid for?

Hello, we had a bathroom design drawn up by Wickes and installed by their contractors. Bathroom all installed and finished yesterday, however one small issue.

We have a victorian style high level flush style toilet and the towel radiator has been installed too close to the toilet meaning our lovely ceramic high level flush can not hang down on it's chain as intended else it crashes off the towel radiator and will cause damage. On the 3d plans drawn up the radiator is shown to clearly be further from the toilet allowing the flush to hang normally. We have contacted wickes who have said its the installers fault. The installer says its the designers fault. (another small issue is that the bracket that goes on the long toilet pipe has been installed too high - this bracket has a stopper on it to stop the toilet seat banging against the pipe when lifted and as its been put up to high is now useless)

I emailed Wickes complaining about this as we've paid over 10k for it and the installers want paying an additional 2k . I requested that either

A. The fitters return and move the radiator across to where it should be and make good all the tiling
or
B. They reimburse me the full cost of the toilet which is £589

Wickes have responded saying the fitters can come and install a strange bracket type thing that will hold the chain flush to one side so it doesn't bang against the radiator. This will look silly and won't look like what we agreed and paid for and will also not show off the lovely ceramic flush handle

AIBU to think that what they've suggested is not a suitable resolution? And that I just want the bathroom that I've paid for

YANBU, buti have the feeling there will be something in the small print about this being an installer issue

Have you paid the installer? If not, problem solved. Tell them you'll pay when it's fixed.

MargotMoon · 01/06/2024 11:34

From what you are saying it's the installation that is wrong, not the design. Try the Consumer Helpline for advice

Witchbitch20 · 01/06/2024 11:34

Can’t the length of the chain be adjusted?

CelesteCunningham · 01/06/2024 11:34

YANBU but I would have thought this is an installer issue. I'd expect a competent installer to realise the potential overlap.

No we haven't paid them yet... this is what I was thinking of doing but didn't know if I was within my right to withhold payment

No, we did try this but the chain would them only be about 2 inch long and I wouldn't be able to reach it
