to have wanted to scream at the two stupid cows I saw yesterday

I mentioned in another post that I live near a small railway station where to get to the opposite platform you have to cross as pedestrian level crossing. The rules are if the light is red you don't cross, especially because long distance express trains thunder through at 90 + miles per hour too.

I was waiting for a train yesterday and the lights went red. At the time the train I was waiting for comes in, more often than not the express train passes through on the other side. Two stupid f'ing cows with a buggy each and a toddler a piece holding onto the buggies arrive on the opposite platform and decide that it will still be ok to saunter across on the red light with the (slower)train about 30 feet away. They were giggling as they were crossing like it was some big adventure but all I could think was, what if the buggy wheels get stuck or what if one of the toddlers falls over. They were also running the risk if being mowed down by a virgin train travelling at such fast speed they would have had no time to react. Luckily the fast train arrived a minute later and the wheels did not get stuck.

I was shooting them evil looks as were a lot of others but they were oblivious as to what danger they had just willingly put their babies in and were still bloody giggling. To make it worse, normally when someone does this the driver or conductor will give whoever has done this a bllcking but nothing was said so in all ikelihood they will probably do this again. I hope to god I don't see this one day (my house overlooks the railway line and the level crossing)

What planet are some people on?

Poor children - let's hope they have inherited their mothers' stupidity!

Freckle · 06/04/2008 10:53

Especially in light of the recent death of someone doing exactly the same thing. Some people will never learn, but, unfortunately, it will probably be their children who pay the price.

constancereader · 06/04/2008 10:54

That is truly shocking.

oldnewmummy · 06/04/2008 14:42

When I was at school a little girl I knew died doing this. Got her foot caught.

Heartbreaking funeral.

Rachmumoftwo · 06/04/2008 14:46

Grrrrrrr at those stupid stupid mothers. If I had been there they would have got an earful (and I would probably have got a slap).

NotABanana · 06/04/2008 14:50

Do you know who they are?

IS there anyone you could report them too?

nappyaddict · 06/04/2008 15:31

idiots.

Notalone · 06/04/2008 16:07

I wish I did know who they were but I didn't recognise them (though I would if I saw them again)

I was just flabbergasted by their lack of sense and very angry that they thought puting their kids lives in danger was amusing.

DP was with me as he was getting the car serviced and had to get off at the next stop to pick it up. I often tell him about people who do this but he admitted he thought I was exaggerating. He couldn't believe it when he saw it with his own eyes. At the speed those virgin trains travel they were so bloody lucky.

Sounds almost like an entry for the Darwin Awards. I'm not sure if YABU---given that I've been TTC for nearly 3 years, I'm really unforgiving when I see sh-t like that.

largeginandtonic · 06/04/2008 19:28

Good grief that is dredful, i think i probably would have said something in shock.

What on earth were they thinking, not thinking i suppose Poor children.

If it is a known problem could the station put up more warnings or make it more difficult for people to cross?

suzi2 · 06/04/2008 20:18

YANBU. That's awful. Surely that system is flawed if trains travelling at 90mph are coming out of nowhere. People will always take risks. There is the same at the train station I used to use but it is only to cross one line that has fairly infrequent, slow moving freight trains.

Why not write to the station, MP, whoever and suggest that they build a proper walkway. Or that they have CCTV and if anyone is caught going on the red that thy fine them £200 or something (not sure if they can do that). It would put a lot of people off trying.

Some people just don't give their children the love, care and attention they deserve. Little rant of my own - was at a party on Friday and one woman there was drunk in charge of a 4 yr old and 9 month old. Apparently the 9 month old spends all day in her buggy - no toys or anything. Scum.

halogen · 06/04/2008 21:17

Jesus. That's horrible. No, YANBU. I can only assume that they are just not thinking, to be charitable about the utter stupidity.

And suzi, that's really sad. When I hear about stuff like that, I always think of this mother I once saw on a bus when I was far too young to have kids myself and her little boy (maybe two or two and a half) was excitedly trying to point out a taxi to her. He tried and tried and she ignored him and ignored him and eventually she turned round and yelled 'SHUT UP'. Poor kid. He only wanted to tell his mum about the taxi.

LynetteScavo · 06/04/2008 21:23

lucicle, I use to be shocked at parents like that too...I've never actually spoken to my childrenn like that, but I can understand why a mother under extreme stress would.

Notalone, you are unreasonable not to have screamed at these women.

brimfull · 06/04/2008 21:27

god -,makes me feel sick just reading that
