Trump found guilty on all 34 counts

CanadianJohn · 30/05/2024 22:16

Trump has been a "enterprising" businessman all his life, operating close to the line. I always thought he was guilty, but am I being unreasonable to be astonished that he was FOUND guilty, given the peculiar politics of the US.

YABU yes, the good sense of the jurors over-ruled the partisan politics, as it should
YANBU remarkable verdicts, given the political situation

I’m not a Trump fan particularly, but clearly he’s part of a political witch hunt

Is it really that though, in this case? Slippery fucker that employs the best lawyers to manipulate the legal system and countlessly gets off the hook, finally gets tripped up. That’s actually what’s happened here isn’t it?

Im sure this won’t damage his loyal base, strengthen it probably, but doesn’t change the fact that he’s rightfully been found guilty here.

Oh, OK. I had not understood that.

Can he still stand?

He can still stand, but he's a legal resident of the state of Florida and under Florida law as a convicted felon, he's not allowed to vote.

JuliesName · 31/05/2024 00:46

However, the Democrats have degraded the office of POTUS forever. No matter who a future incumbent is, when trying to deal with the likes of Xi or Putin, they will be viewed only as a potential future defendant.FDR and JFK will be spinning in their graves tonight, there are no grown-ups in charge and we are a damn sight closer to WW3 than we were 24 hours

This is a hilariously bad take. The democrats have nothing to do with Trump being a felon.

@baffld How have the Democrats degraded the office of POTUS? Trump is the one that has been convicted... how is that anyone else's fault?

Or are you arguing that the legal system should turn a blind eye to crimes committed by former presidents and/or presidential candidates?

Surely it is Trump that has degraded the office of POTUS by behaving in a criminal manner?

DH is american and told me a couple of nights ago that he’s going to vote for Trump . It makes me feel sick.

Divorce him. Do you want to be married to someone who you can never forgive?

MsJinks · 31/05/2024 07:00

His funding website crashed apparently with all the attempted donations following the verdicts. Folk genuinely believe the ‘left’ are out to get this ‘great’ guy! (Not my opinion if that’s not clear!)
I find it insane that anyone, barring his criminally minded mates would wish to vote for him, and have given up trying to understand this. However, it’s a massive concern for more than just the USA if (when?) he gets elected, and I can’t seem to give up having some worry about that.

JennyForeigner · 31/05/2024 07:04

JFC I fed up of the over-use of the term 'witch hunt'. Is there anyone naive enough in the world to actually believe Trump hasn't done the stuff attributed to him? Or that prosecutors and judges make up this stuff as they go along and yet somehow the lawyers and judges on the other side don't notice?

Unless the people calling this a witch hunt think there actually was a cabal of economically disadvantaged elderly woman satanists undermining seventeenth century Europe, justice and witch hunt aren't synonymous.

Meadowfinch · 31/05/2024 07:07

DT is one of those men who thinks the law doesn't apply to him, and the law has finally disagreed.

Not at all a surprise. It was pretty inevitable really.

Ciderlout · 31/05/2024 07:08

Just got the news on in the background it’s on. Some of his supporters look crackers, screaming, jeering aggressively and balling their eyes out….

QueenMegan · 31/05/2024 08:20

I'm staggered by how many actually support him and say its a conspiracy.
He's a vile misogynistic creep.

And a dishonest con artist, which is what the court was there to judge.

ImPunbelievable · 31/05/2024 09:42

Given that 14% (I think) of likely trump voters said they would change their mind if he was convicted, I hope this will help. Yes it'll shore up his base but it's not his base which is dangerous - it's the swing states

MorrisZapp · 31/05/2024 10:00

I've said this before but I hope a painless heart attack takes him away in his sleep tonight. Americans have built up a fever dream around this dangerous madman, and there is nothing he can do now that won't cause his followers to become more devoted. It was funny ten years ago but now it implicates the safety of the entire world.

His continued existence should terrify reasonable people everywhere.

MorrisZapp · 31/05/2024 10:02

And he can't just free people from prison. Obama couldn't do anything about the lad in Making a Murderer because politicians and the judiciary are separate. The only saving grace in all of this are the checks and balances the founders of US government established to limit the personal power of any elected president.

EasternStandard · 31/05/2024 10:04

It might hinder him, then again given the donations uplift and anger it might help him get in

Gerald Ford held his nose and pardoned Nixon because of respect for the office. There's a certain amount of 'magic' required to be an effective President, a large part of that has just been lost.
Once your status is reduced to being 'merely a transient politician' (to quote Paxman) you can no longer create quick coalitions of allies with sweet words and implied threats, you have to invest blood and treasure.
The damage is done, Taiwan and Ukraine will be the first places the loss is felt, but there will be wider ramifications.

This is the most asinine comment. Trump is not a God, nor is he a Putin-esque dictator (as much as he wants to be). He's already gotten away with multiple rape and sexual assaults because he's a rich famous white man. And your argument is he should be able to get away with whatever he wants because he used to be president?

Fuck that shit all the way out of here.

BettySweaty · 01/06/2024 14:53

@RoomOfRequirement 👏👏👏

TraitorsGate · 01/06/2024 15:04

If he gets voted in again then are other heads of state, presidents, prime ministers expected to jolly along and entertain a convicted felon. Are Ukraine going to accept support from a convict, I can see riots in the streets from his loony supporters. He is really dangerous.

AngryLikeHades · 01/06/2024 15:07

I did think he was making himself vulnerable to lawsuits against himself.
Stupid question: was he immune to prosecution when he was president?
I hope he gets all he deserves.

I hope this happens to dictator Biden (having a heart attack)! I'd still rather vote for a so called "convicted felon" than Biden who molested his underage teenage daughter in the shower.

Do you mean the allegation she has consistently denied, apparently written in her diary which was stolen and the thief jailed?
