To some degree

OP posts:
EmpressaurusDeiGatti · 30/05/2024 17:47

Obviously - except for a very few people who might be able to walk / bike everywhere they need to go, & even they would need to pay for bike maintenance and shoes. What’s the context?

TheHorneSection · 30/05/2024 17:49

Well yes, but why?

Timeforanewnam · 30/05/2024 17:49

Yes most people do.

except my husband who is a bus driver. They are well looked after .

Overthebow · 30/05/2024 17:51

Mines about £10 a month in petrol to work so not much, although have way more for everything else

Theunamedcat · 30/05/2024 17:51

Yes because even shoes cost money

You still need to factor in the cost of the car. Both purchase, insurance, tax, servicing, and general maintenance.

If your only spending a tenner a month in fuel you might actually be cheaper using taxes.

Needanewname42 · 30/05/2024 17:55

@2025ismyyear of course they do. Unless they live within walking distance of everywhere (work, shops, schools)

SpudleyLass · 30/05/2024 17:57

In what context, OP?

Needmorelego · 30/05/2024 17:58

Well yes..... what's your point?

mitogoshi · 30/05/2024 18:00

Most people do, yes, but it varies a lot, mine is £60 a month on fuel plus wear and tear

CeeJay81 · 30/05/2024 18:05

Technically I don't the vast majority of the time.

Work is less than 10 mins walk and we have many essential services(school, docs, leisure centre, small supermarket nearby plus online shopping) but still use public transport 1 to 2 times a month. Even if its just for shopping or a change of scenery or a day out.

JustFrustrated · 30/05/2024 18:22

Some people have minimal even if they have a car.

I know people with fully funded company EVs which have EV charge cards.

BIK tax is like £17 a month ....

halrien · 30/05/2024 18:51

We live in London and don't have a car so no petrol, parking, tax, congestion/ULEZ or car running costs. DH walks to work, it's a 25 min walk away. DC1 walks/scoots to school 5 min walk away. I have a disabled person's Freedom Pass so I can travel anywhere within London at zero cost, I make about 3 trips during the week with DC2 for toddler activities and classes. DCs travel free within London as they are under 11. So all of that travel costs nothing (apart from wear on shoes and food we eat to fuel our walks?)

DH has to pay for travelling around London for trips out at weekends (we have trips out most weekends). We all pay for leisure travel by train outside of London a few times a year, flights abroad for holidays and travel when abroad.

LondonQueen · 30/05/2024 21:05

One of my biggest costs outside of utilities is transport. However I chose to live where I do. What's your point?

Jegersur · 30/05/2024 21:14

Well, yes. We don’t have a car, and we both work from home, but we do take buses or tubes or trains at weekends or evenings for leisure. DH travels for free - over 60. I get discounted travel - I’m disabled.

BluPeony · 30/05/2024 21:15

Most people except my DP, who lives a 5 min walk away. Bastard.

turkeymuffin · 30/05/2024 21:27

I have a practically free electric car from work and I charge it using excess solar power. So yes there is a cost but it's very minimal.

I also have shoes & bikes for almost free local transport.

Anything further than 100 miles costs me in charging or trains.

Is that what you mean?

PuttingDownRoots · 30/05/2024 21:34

DH has driven around 900 miles so far this week, and will do another 250 on Sunday (all for work,)

I've driven about 6 miles (To supermarket) and 10 miles for DDs rugby practice. I work from home.

Most people do leave their general vicinity!

At786 · 30/05/2024 21:41

I don't technically - my business covers all of my costs, even my food!

ALPHAFEMALESINCEBIRTH · 30/05/2024 23:01

zero
don't drive but do have blue badges
train station is miles away(rural Wales)
3 free disabled bus passes for us
