Village Fete Bag Dilemma

Here's a bit of a first world problem, but here goes. Am helping to organise a local village fete. You know the sort of thing. Event of the year in the village (yes, I don't get out much!). One of the organisers has donated a load of stuff for the raffle. All new, and very kind. But there are two gross fake designer bags, that of the very faked initialled variety. I am worried about including these because a) they're fake and as such illégal to sell, if not give away, and b) even if I made it clear they were fakes, it would lower the tone and mske everything tacky. However, I don't want to hurt this person's feelings. YANBU = it's fake, don't use it and explain to her and YABU = mark it as fake and give it away, who cares?

I would avoid using brand names in any description - just say 'brown and gold handbag' or whatever.

It's a village fate - the focus is raising funds not maintaining the high class 'tone' - Christ Almighty, this place is beyond satire sometimes 😂😂

Put them on a stall so someone can choose whether to buy them or not. If asked... say you can raise more money that way.

see if there is a shiny spine in the box you can put in the raffle instead

🤔what?

Lavenderandbrown · 02/06/2024 13:31

I wouldn’t give them away. You asked for donations and received them including these bags. I would put them for sale rather than a prize if possible. There are many good suggestions…dupe faux in style of to help with the wording. If the purse is labeled I would simply call it that…if it’s fake LV with LY instead call it LY purse. Many fundraisers under my belt and the stuff people
donate…cleaned out their garage…but someone manages to basket it all up and call it summer fun or some other cutesy name. I also have found people can be very very particular….well the arm of the sweatshirt was touching the purse so they are a set…. For that reason clearly and simply label bag. And if it’s hideous call it ….a purse.

Just bumping to find out what the 'shiny spine' could be. <nudges @Bargoed>

“Inspired by” is the description you’re looking for 😉

OldPerson · 03/06/2024 20:58

Why are you so hung up on this?

Just mark them as reproduction. I'm assuming you don't want to stand at the stall and yell "Sally gave these. They're clearly not genuine ............"

Bargoed · 04/06/2024 00:46

@Pastryface A nice steel backbone to give them back or throw them away. It's not illegal to own counterfeit goods; however, it is illegal to sell them, even secondhand. Using "inspired by" or similar terms only emphasizes the fact that the OP knows they are fake.
