Kids hitting cars with footballs?

texasholden · 29/05/2024 20:26

Theres the same kids who constantly play football in the middle of the road. I don’t think they do it on purpose but I’ve seen them hit multiple cars with the ball (tonight has been the worst) on my doorbell camera.

They clearly don’t care less though. They just smacked it against my neighbours car windscreen and just carried on like nothing had happened.

Aibu and being a crank because normally I’d want to encourage kids playing outdoors.

Little shits💩

As you have it on camera, ring 101 and ask for advice. This is bratty behaviour.

This really irritates me.

Some people will come on here and say

"their just kids"

"Why did you buy a house next to others"

"If you can't afford to fix a car, you shouldn't be driving"

"It's just a car"

But those ideas belong in the 70s' when cars were made of cheap steel, had glass headlights and plain windscreens. Modern cars have all sorts of sensors and cameras on the windscreen, it's not just a matter of "getting a new one fitted". Gone are the days of paying Autoglass £50 to "pop a new one in". Now you have to get the cameras calibrated and the ADAS reset. And if you have a HUD, you can pay up to £1000 just for the glass, never mind the fitting and calibration. A cracked screen could set you back 2K.

Same with LED headlights. On a shirty little Mazda 3, just one headlight costs £1800.

A ball smacking into a panel will ruin the paint. Again, unlike old "single stage" paint from back in the 70s, modern cars use a two stage process, the actual paint is just a fraction of a millimetre thick and can't easily be polished.

One hit from a football can cost thousands to fix, and the kids (and their parents) don't give a fuck.

If been on a thread too where kids have the right to play in a street rather the sports park up the road 🙄. Where is the logic? even the 1970s had these things , they're not new .

A street isn't a playground though.

It's a question of appropriateness.

Back in the 70s, the very few houses had cars, and cars were easily repairable. In fact, actually most care weren't even fixed if they got damaged because there was no MOT.

But now we have to get them repaired. So it's not the same as the 70s.

There was a whole family out playing tennis in the street last evening. The ball was pinging off all the cars and they didn't give a shit. They completely blanked anyone who said anything and just laughed between themselves.

Find where they live and arrange an archery tournament outside their home, beginners especially welcome.

I go out and tell them off every time because I live in a hotspot for it. Everytime I hear them swearing or see the dropping litter I also tell them off. If their balls go in my garden I keep them and ask them to send their parents around to get it back, then tell them what they've been up to. Most of the time the parents look embarrassed and it stops for a bit.

They're mostly nice kids by us but they're a bit neglected and it's clear they don't have boundaries.

fitzwilliamdarcy · 30/05/2024 09:15

My estate has a number of families whose kids get together and play football (despite the no ball games signs everywhere and regular emails from management company) and they're always hitting the cars. My NDN goes out and tells them to stop it but they just laugh or stick their fingers up at her. They're 7 or 8.

I don't have a car but my letterbox got knocked off my door by their ball - told their parents, parents just shrugged.

YANBU but it's the age of entitlement and nobody gives a shit about anyone else anymore.

morphlerana · 30/05/2024 09:27

My husband would call the kids out on road and met with "kids being kids" our wing mirrors got smashed the lot.

Even think the prick next door sent his kids out on purpose most of the time.
It's only one family to! Entitled neighbours

Report it to the police - I know that's the typical MN response but where I am they regularly run campaigns about this kind of thing and do crack down on it.

refreshingseahorse · 30/05/2024 11:40

We have this too, there is a park one minute away but they need to save their strength for whacking the ball into garage doors and fences (as well as cars). I've sometimes mused about what I would sacrifice to never have to hear a sodding football ever again.
