Mouth ulcers in cheek toddler- lots of crying and refusing dummy

My son is 2 and absolutely LOVES his dummy.

He's been very cranky the last couple of days and especially today and has started to refuse his dummy.

Initially I thought he didn't like it because I was using a newer one. But now I've realised he's just refusing all dummies.

I looked in his mouth and he has sores inside both checks. I don't see any sores on his tongue or back of the neck.

He's clearly in pain and doesn't want to put his dummy in. He's also refused water in the last few hours.

He's been crying a lot. No fever and no other symptoms.

Any ideas ? Just mouth ulcers?

Obviously if he continues not to drink this is going to be a problem.

Please no lectures on stopping with the dummy. He'll stop when he's ready- like my DD did. No lasting effects on speech or teeth so I don't have an issue with it. He still needs it.

I’d take him to the doctor to get checked over- multiple mouth ulcers on a baby on both sides sounds very unusual and I’d want it looking at. Do they look open and sore?

Could be hand foot and mouth, does he have any blisters on his palms and soles of his feet? Dd only gets mouth ulcers with HF&M and it’s bloody sore.

I think she got Daktarin gel which she hated but it helped a lot, and a mouth spray to numb them.

I’d give your GP a quick call and see if you can get him seen today or tomorrow.

Little bit of white and some red. That's what they look like.

They're small but they're there.

I got the best look I could get, as of course, it's tricky to get to look in there!

That's the first thing I thought of too.

My DD once did the same, she was around two and started not wanting her dummy and that's what it was.

I will check his hands and feet in a minute.
