Wibu to park next to this van?

Dp and I live on a new build estate, he owned the house when I met him so I'm not totally clear on the parking details but here goes:

When he moved in there was 'allocated' parking to each of the houses with numbers painted on the floor of the bays (Our house has a parking space out the front which Dp uses for his car). There is also a car park round the back of the house that our back garden gate opens out onto with no numbers on.

All the numbers have since been removed and since the parking bays are on a public street there is technically no allocated parking now.

Next door but one has a big work van that he parks in the space directly next to our back gate. This leaves a small space directly in front of the gate.

I am buying a new motorcycle soon that I need for work and plan to park in this small space because -

  1. the space out the front is too small to fit both the car and the bike
  2. the street is on a steep hill and I'm concerned parking the bike on the hill will cause it to tip over and get damaged (I've had this happen before!)
  3. the bike is new I'm worried about the potential theft risk of having it visible on the street (I do have a cover and a lock/alarm for it)

Neighbours also have a bike, they have converted their front garden into a bike parking space with a ground anchor but unfortunately this isn't an option for us due to various water pipes and other things running through our front garden. Wibu to park in the space next to their van? The space is quite small but still big enough for them to get in and out of the van. My previous bike broke down shortly before I moved in so I've never had to worry about parking before!

I can't understand why you can't install a ground anchor, There is no way water and other services have been fitted close enough to the ground level to prevent this. There are regulations which detail how close to the surface utilities etc. can be buried(unless you've installed them yourselves, of course)

I'd much prefer my bike to be locked up on my property than somewhere I couldn't see or secure it properly.

surely if your bike is v close to their van, there is a high risk they will hit the bike when getting in or out of their normal parking space?

there must be a way to put a ground anchor somewhere.

I don't understand the ground anchor thing either, pipes are buried deeper than you seem to think!

But otherwise, why not park it in the garden?
