To ask for help re holiday insurance

Wantingtogethome · 28/05/2024 20:01

I am currently on a long haul holiday having been in a car accident.

Thankfully my injuries are not serious and having been checked out and cleaned up at the hospital nothing is broken.

However, I have numerous open wounds, and a lot of sore parts to my body. I am also shaken up by it all.

I am due to be here for another 3 weeks, and I really just want to go home to recover. However, I called to rearrange my flights and it’s going to be £2,500.

Does anyone know if it is possible to do this through insurance?

I can only find about receiving medical treatment and for repatriation to UK hospital.

AIBU to ask is anyone able to advise if this is covered by holiday insurance?

Edit due to typo

You need to speak to your insurance company who can advise on your terms and conditions

All policies are different so nobody can answer this except them

If you have a doctors not saying you aren’t well enough to travel then you should be covered

Contact your travel insurance asap. No one else can answer this.

As the above poster said, all policies are different, so call your insurer for advice. I'm glad to hear that the accident didn't prove to be too serious for you OP, and hope that you are able to get home to recuperate without incurring additional costs, if that's what you really want to do. Take care of yourself.

PBandJ111 · 28/05/2024 20:05

Actually, you’re normally duty bound to inform them as soon as you can after an accident, or someone does on your behalf. Assuming you do have travel insurance?

Lancrelady80 · 28/05/2024 20:06

That would come under curtailment of travel/holiday I would have thought, and don't think companies are keen on that. But it's worth ringing to find out.

Hope you feel better soon.

I think the only way you'll know for sure is to phone your insurance company. However since its a preference (albeit a very reasonable one) rather than a medical necessity I suspect it won't be covered.

If the doctor's note says they aren't well enough yo travel, surely the OP won't be able to travel home?

Sorry to hear about your accident and you injuries, OP. You're probably still pretty shocked, so I'd spend the rest of the day ringing whatever 'hotline' or emergency line your travel insurers have on their policy / website, and see where you stand.

I was very unwell once in the Middle East and ended up waiting it out for a week to fly home, because I'd been discharged from the hospital, could walk, and was 'safe'. Could barely eat though. I had pretty standard travel insurance.

I do hope hope you fare better. Make sure you are keeping those wounds clean and dressed, meantime.
