The revolt against tourists in Spain?

Isn't it a little bit like cutting your nose off to spite your face? They don't want the tourists to come but many of the communities heavily rely on the tourism .

I empathise with their plight (I avoid the Spanish resorts and haven't been in twenty years) but if the protests make it so unwelcoming and the tourists all leave in droves, surely they are going to be in an economic disaster with mass unemployment.

Or maybe I am wrong and they have a lot of other industry to capitalise on in the Balearic and Canary Islands so they don't need the money from the tourists.

There isn't a revolt against tourists...that UK media wanting sales/clicks.

They are objecting to the uncontrolled building of hotels, apartment, air b&bs, taking over, second home ownership

The same objections that locals in Cornwall and Devon have. Try watching the YouTube video of the skimmerty hitchers song "West country holiday"

they are fed up of being priced out of housing

To be honest, these protests should be (and maybe are) aimed less at Brits and more at Germans/Dutch etc now, as a lot of it is about foreigners buying property and businesses in the tourist areas, which isn't as simple for us now, and I know a lot of people who are opted for different destinations since Brexit.
I lived in Catalunya for years and a couple spent in the Canaries and lack of tourists does heavily affect many areas, but not all. So the chances are the protestors are not the ones who are reliant on work, smack bang in the middle of the tourist areas.

To be fair they’re mostly protesting uncontrolled tourism rather than we don’t want anyone to come. So many properties are being used as holiday lets or second homes for just a few months of the year so are then not available/affordable to the people who actually live there.

The huge hotel and apartment complexes where the largely seasonal work is low paid and the profits benefit the owners/investors, not the local community. Plus the environmental concerns.

Then of course you’ve got the antisocial behaviour of some tourists who treat the place like a toilet!

I think they’ve got valid reasons to protest.

I agree their reasons are valid.
