To be pissed off he keeps drying my clothes outside

My hay fever is so bad at the moment. I’m usually ok apart from maybe 6 weeks around May/June which are torture. My antihistamines (fexofenadine) barely touch it.

anyway, as hayfever kicked off I have asked DH not to put my clothes outside to dry in order to avoid pollen as much as I can, but he keeps putting them outside. First he said he forgot, then he said he didn’t believe it would make a difference and then he moaned about condensation in the house. I haven’t asked him to dry his clothes inside, just mine if he is hanging things out.

when I have hung the washing I have put the rest of the family’s clothes out but kept my clothes and our bedsheets in… and he keeps moving it!!!

We do have a small house but with the windows open upstairs regularly and only a quarter of the washing drying inside I don’t see that condensation will be a problem. it will only be until my hayfever eases in a few weeks.

He keeps giving me reasons to dry outside like “but don’t you think clothes smell so much nicer” .. they do! I would love to just dry outside but my eyes are like fucking golf balls and my nose won’t stop running.

I know some people will say surely it makes no difference but IMO it’s worth trying

Put chilli powder in his underwear

mathanxiety · 25/05/2024 19:01

Buy a tumble dryer.
Don't discuss it or ask his permission or opinion. Buy it, have it installed, use it.

Buy an air purifier. Don't discuss it or consult with him. Put it in your bedroom, turn it on, and use it night and day.

Get your carpets and curtains professionally cleaned.

Wear masks.

Leaving the windows open in the peak hay fever weeks is going to result in hay fever. You're going to have to keep your windows closed.

Your husband is a first class twat.

ArmchairPhycologist · 25/05/2024 19:03

If you're opening the windows due to condensation from drying indoors you might as well just hang the clothes outside 🤷🏼‍♀️

CallmeClarice · 25/05/2024 19:04

I would bloody love a tumble dryer but we sadly don’t have the space and we live in a very old property - sometimes the toaster makes the fuse trip, god knows what a tumble dryer would do 😂

air purifier is a great shout though

You also need to stop opening your windows, and possibly not dry anyone's clothes outside during hay-fever season.
Allergies can be hell, and he needs to respect what you say. He should be wanting you to be well.

CallmeClarice · 25/05/2024 19:06

We just have the upstairs windows open in the kids rooms to air the house out a bit, we don’t open our bedroom window or the downstairs windows.

I think having a few windows open for a couple of hours is probably better than clothes outside all day (that was my theory any way)

honestly I think he’s making a fuss over nothing condensation wise. We dry indoors all through the winter and it’s not really a problem so why would it be now?

You really need a vented tumble dryer.

Confrontayshunme · 25/05/2024 19:11

I saw a consultant dermatologist for a pollen skin allergy, and she said in my worst few weeks to take 2x 180mg fexofenadine daily. I am having almost no symptoms this year, which is amazing.

RandomMess · 25/05/2024 19:13

Definitely take more anti histamine, can you take Piriton? 2 of those in the evening and Fenofexidine in the morning.

mynewusername2023 · 25/05/2024 19:13

You could get a dehumidifier. We have one as we had condensation in the roof and it collects an incredible amount of water when we have washing drying. It is a godsend for the winter. We got one with a clothes drying function.

Worth every penny and doesn't take up much space.

HÆLTHEPAIN · 25/05/2024 19:13

Could you get a dehumidifier? We have one that we use mostly in the winter. I just position it next to the airer in a closed room and it dries clothes quite quickly (especially if you don’t overload the airer which should be the case if it’s just your clothes). It will stop him complaining about condensation and they’re not too expensive to buy or run.

junebirthdaygirl · 25/05/2024 19:42

Stick a note to the washing machine as he is just not thinking. Then he has no excuse.

Callipygion · 25/05/2024 22:29

Do you buy your fexofenadine over the counter @CallmeClarice or get it prescribed? Because if the former if you go to the doctor they can prescribe a stronger dose tablet. Or ask if there’s anything else you can try if it’s not working.

I was told by Drs to stay indoors as much as possible & keep doors and windows closed. Hayfever is absolutely miserable. People who have never suffered don’t realise how bloody awful it can be.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 25/05/2024 22:33

Could you take it to the laundrette to dry it?

Ginkypig · 25/05/2024 22:46

Got a dehumidifier for damp in the house but was really pleased that the surprise bonus is putting it right next to the clothes horse meant that the whole load dries in a couple of hours when before a bedding wash could take a day or two at least.

the real point though is you need to get angry with dh. He is deliberately ignoring your needs including basically calling you a liar. He is putting his own opinions on a nice smell and condensation above your health even though he knows it’s only temporary.

get him told @CallmeClarice !!!!
