Grey poop

Hi guys, my 4 year old with eating issues has been drastically off food for about a week now, a doctor appointment is arranged for next week. However his poop for the past few days is grey in colour, I'm not sure weather to be concerned, gp is unavailable until Tuesday due to bank holiday, any advice?

Grey poo can be a sign of liver problems. But as you've only noticed it in the past couple of days, that's unlikely.
He's clearly got a bug of some sort, if he's off his food a lot more than usual.
The digestive system is a sensitive beast, and anything can set it off to behave weird.
I used to notice with my DD, that when she was poorly, her poo would be much stickier/mucus-y than normal.

I'm concerned because he's been really difficult to feed on and off for a while, he complains of of being itchy very often but no eczema or dry skin, his belly almost looks swollen and now they grey poops, initially I but it down to sickness as he was throwing up last week, but my mum instincts make me worried there could be something else going on😖

Honestly, I would take him to A+E.

menopausalmare · 25/05/2024 11:12

Poo is brown because your liver breaks down old red blood cells, haemoglobin and puts some of the pigments in your urine and some into the small intestine. If he's itchy as well, he'll need a liver functioning test.

DontBiteTheCat · 25/05/2024 11:13

That combined with the itching would make me want to take him to A&E.

He's been complaining of itching for weeks but I've never really thought to much of it, now thinking about it it all makes more sense possibly liver issues, I think I will call 111.

I hope he's ok. Xx

Sickness, swollen abdomen, skin itching and grey faeces need urgent investigation, Op. I would also advise A&E today, rather than waiting until GP appointment after the BH weekend.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 25/05/2024 11:17

Glad you’re going to seek urgent advice. This combination of symptoms is concerning. Grim, but take a poo photo next time you have the opportunity.

JazzHandsYeah · 25/05/2024 11:19

Agree with PP. Hope you get through to 111 quickly and your boy is feeling better soon.

TabithaTimeTurner · 25/05/2024 20:34

@bubblesxx did you manage to phone 111? Hope he is ok.

Mnk711 · 25/05/2024 20:35

How did you get on OP? Hope DS is OK.

Famfirst · 25/05/2024 20:48

Definitely a&e. Itchiness can be liver related

Ladylalaboo1 · 26/05/2024 21:07

Did you manage to get anywhere with 111 op? Hope your son is feeling better xx
