To not know how to pay tax credits back

I've let my tax credits lapse because I don't want to claim universal credit. I was looking for a job so knew I wouldn't need it when the deadline for claiming came around. As it happens I have been overpaid but they have given me no indication of how to repay this. They said it would come out of my future payments but there won't be any. AIBU to wait for them to contact me again with payment options. I really don't have time with starting work etc to sit on the phone for ages.

This happened to me. We were overpaid quite a lot. I am not receiving tax credits now and I’m paying them £33 a month

I had the same when I switched to UC - I get precisely £0:00 but they said they would reclaim it from my UC!

Honestly I've just thought 'crack on then' if they do come for it I'll pay back £10 a month!

Same with us . Not entitled to Uc but have a tax credits overpayment of nearly 3 grand . I'm going to wait until they contact us again. I imagine they will set up a repayment plan .

Same thing. They sent me a letter saying I owed them £100 and that I would be written to with the payment reference and details of how to pay. I've not heard anything else since.

There was no payment reference on the first letter. Online payment system wanted the reference code. I called and they were so busy that they cut off the call and an automated voice told me to call back another time. I tried again with the same result.

Now I'm waiting for them to write to me to tell me exactly how I can pay them. Been waiting four months so far, bonkers.

My mum had an overpayment of £1.5k when she stopped receiving tax credits. She was repaying by way of standing order at £10 a month and then when she went on to universal credit, they automatically started deducting £60 a month.

I also asked them using the website message thing. No response and now it says they can't deal with anything online as I'm not a CTC claimant anymore.

That happened to my mum. No news at all and then it went to debt collectors I think they were.

We get UC so they deduct from that, but it took them ages. They first sent a letter saying there was an overpayment, then at least another month later they sent another letter saying they would recoup it through UC and it was a further two months before the deductions started.

Perhaps I will call them. I don't want it going to the bailiffs. It's around 1k. I just want them to have it back and I can wash my hands of them

They usually remind you one more time before it goes to their collection agents or court.
