Ebayer cancelled my order

Saw a dress with no bids on it so I won it as the only bidder. It wasn’t an expensive brand so not a really sought after thing but I liked the design so went for it.

they also had a buy it now option for roughly twice what I paid through the auction.

I won the auction and paid immediately but within 10 minutes of the auction ending I get a notification saying seller had cancelled and I would receive a refund.

No message from seller, just the notification from eBay so I messaged to ask.

seller replied saying they messaged eBay because they found a large rip in the dress and it wouldn’t be fair to send it in that condition.

I said thanks for letting me know but I’m a little disappointed to which I got a reply saying I’d be more disappointed if it had turned up with a MASSIVE rip. She then said she was going to take it to be repaired and if it is done well she’d let me know and post it.
There was definitely a tone to her reply but of course I didn’t want to be rude to a complete stranger so I just replied ok thanks for letting me know, good luck with the repair have a good day.

she cancelled the sale so of course she isn’t going to send it! Apart from anything else once the refund is issued

obviously there’s nothing I can do and wouldn’t be able to prove it but I have to say I’m pretty pissed off because personally I think the dress is fine but she just didn’t want to sell it for that price!

if that’s the case don’t lit it for that amount.

im betting that within the next couple of weeks it gets relisted and that’ll happen over and over until she gets the price she wants!

I know in the grand scheme of life it’s a small unimportant thing but it’s these little annoyances that rankle.

Bit annoying but you don't know she's not telling the truth

TommyWooWoo · 23/05/2024 14:04

Meh, you're getting annoyed at what you think has happened, rather than what you know to have happened. You've not lost anything as you've got your money back.

Arlanymor · 23/05/2024 14:05

It’s mildly annoying, but she might also be telling the truth. Once you have your refund back I would just move past it.

PossumintheHouse · 23/05/2024 14:06

It'll be bollocks. The dress is fine, but she's a big fibber and she's cancelled. And that's that. I know how infuriating it is, I've had exactly the same.

You could be petty and keep an eye out for the listing and bid again. See what excuse she comes up with next time. Total waste of time though obviously.

CranfordScones · 23/05/2024 14:15

You're not exactly unreasonable. But you're wasting mental energy on things that just aren't worth the effort.

Ginkypig · 23/05/2024 14:16

I know that I don’t know for sure obviously and that’s why I wouldn’t be rude or accuse.

im just having a lighthearted rant on here! I’m more mildly annoyed than anything else.

we all including me have bigger things going on in life but these are the smaller things in life you can have a right moan about because it doesn’t actually matter all that much. Sometimes it just feels good to have a moan about the small insignificant stuff doesn’t it especially when you have to be level headed and manage the actual big important issues.

The giveaway is the ridiculous claim that she's going to get it repaired. A cheap dress that she wants rid of? She's going to take it to a seamstress to repair out of her own pocket and send it on to you? Aye right.

LLMS2022 · 23/05/2024 14:21

I'd be inclined to believe the seller, if she wasn't happy with the price it sold at then she wouldn't have started the bid that low, surely. Get yourself on vinted instead- I'm sure you'll find the same dress for cheaper!

BookishBabe · 23/05/2024 14:49

It's been happening since ebay began.
I bought something postpartum and was really excited to have something to wear to an event when I felt really shit about my body. Seller cancelled and said she'd sold it elsewhere and forgot to end the listing (I think it just didn't go for as much as she wanted). I replied that I was disappointed and she messaged back to tell me to get a grip and I don't know what's going on in her life.
Had it time and time again.

Edited

I bought something for €Hundreds ( only bidder) and seller cancelled.
infuriating , but that’s eBay.

MissUltraViolet · 23/05/2024 14:54

It didn't sell for enough, happens all the time. People chance putting things on bids and hope for a few bidders fighting for the item as the timer ticks down.

Keep an eye out and I bet it goes back up for sale at the buy it now price or with a higher starting bid.

oakleaffy · 23/05/2024 14:56

However- saw a better item for a Scottish Charity ( Antique) so the £500 went to a valid lovely charity.
Keep your eyes peeled .

gleefulstar · 23/05/2024 15:40

I had this recently. Bought some discontinued perfume for £30. Paid for it straight away. Seller cancelled and issued refund.

Next day, same seller was selling for £70! It didn't sell and eventually ended up at original price of £30. I bought some elsewhere. CFs!!!!

Ginkypig · 23/05/2024 19:29

Thanks everyone,

i can’t know for certain but I’m still leaning towards CF

if she wants it to sell she’ll either end up waiting for a long time or end up having to be more realistic. Either way not my problem

Katemax82 · 23/05/2024 21:55

Same thing happened to me but they simply said "the item is no longer available " so I responded with "was it because I won it for £xxx, they replied "no" but I didn't believe them

Poppyseed14 · 23/05/2024 22:00

She will get a strike from Ebay I'm pretty sure OP for cancelling so that might make you feel a bit better. I agree with you for what it's worth.

HighOnMaiden · 23/05/2024 22:02

You used to be able to report this under none performing seller. It would be noted and if they did it a lot their accounts would go.

Meraas · 10/06/2024 16:53

This happened to me. I left the seller a negative review.
