Just listening to the PM on BBC news. Does he really think we are going to swallow this. Honestly he must be delusional. Forget the last 14 or so years, forget Liz and Boris. And things will get better. Mad.

He is going for better the devil you know strategy

one used often in politics it saved the Tories in 1992 and Labour were expected to win and made the fated mistake of celebrating too soon

it won’t happen this time but it keep some voters and deter voters from voting labour

as for lies people will believe what they want to believe especially when you have a charismatic leader that is certainly missing in this election

I remember that. Was it the time when Neil Kinnock was celebrating by the sea and fell into the water. Before the election. Big mìstake. Like Rishi getting drenched yesterday. He looked ridiculous. But Keir flanked by flags did look a bit over the top and a wannabe President

They will use two incredibly contentious controversial points which cause real hate and anger on both sides to fight this
Gaza and trans / women’s rights.

the next few months are going to be horrific in the level of hatred, and lies spewed on social media

And you know what? The vast majority of the population do not give a shiny shit about them. They are contentious because some commentators want us frothing as opposed to rational. Cos rational would mean less income. Don't let the scumbags win.

HRTQueen · 23/05/2024 08:01

I am not sure if him falling in the sea was the same time but Labour acting as though they had already won at a rally and Kinnock declaring it was Labour’s turn really didn’t go down well with the British public

meanwhile John Major stood on a soap box

that over confidence may work in American politics but not in the UK

I was enraged by the reading claim.
Fantastic reading rates? No mate. Our kids can pass a phonics screening. But look at the reading for pleasure rates. It’s dropped off a cliff. Phonics is sounding out anyway, not reading. He’s muddled the two.

I will vote for any party which doesn’t insist a school ditches hundreds of lovely reading books (which were part of a valid reading scheme last year and so perfectly good, and chosen to fit the needs and interests of our children) in order to buy a whole load of new ones that the children don’t like as much, because the new reading scheme dictates the children must read those books five times over in a particular order with no choice allowed. You can say you’ve put more money into schools but if schools have to immediately spend it on replacing perfectly good resources it isn’t being spent in a way that helps the children!

And breathe. I am now climbing carefully down from my very high soap box.

Think about the vile stuff that the Brexit side used, the Tory london mayor campaign was like something Nigel ferret ferage came up with, with Kahn’s face and a Red Cross through it.
Britain feels so full of anger right now it seems ok to be vocal with hatred and horrific views.

No you're right. That was 1983. We don't want over-confidence here.
