So so sick of antisocial selfish people

Travelling in a big city today and every train or bus I’ve got on there’s been some selfish arsehole on FaceTime/watching something on their phone with no headphones/carrying out a loud phone conversation oblivious to everyone else. Despite putting in headphones myself none of this was drowned out.

I’m already tired and grumpy because my selfish neighbour decided instead of keeping me awake with the smell of weed, they would invite their loser mates over and play music because clearly none of them had to get up at 6 for work today.

I can’t afford to move and I need to get from a to b but I’m sick and tired of other peoples selfish behaviour impacting on me. The stress of it really gets to me but I feel powerless to do anything about it 🤬

I couldn't think of anything worse than having my private conversation broadcast to all and sundry

Camparijane · 23/05/2024 17:24

Tell me about it. I’m sat in my living room listening to next doors 3 constantly yapping dogs whilst they have pissed off out for hours on end yet again.

It’s not like this in other places - recently been to Japan and the Netherlands and there was much more consideration. So don’t think it’s down just to technology

the there’s no such thing as society generation and their children

veryblunt · 23/05/2024 19:19

Society has become so reliant and dependent on their phones and devices they no longer see the world beyond a screen.
Some can't seem to function without a phone.
So much linked to one device to make life easy makes me wonder can they do anything manually or without broadcasting.

That’s why I drive. Everywhere. I just couldn’t, and wouldn’t, go on public transport. Buses and trains are swarming with inconsiderate arseholes.

BigPandaTinyDragon · 23/05/2024 21:06

I mentioned that my neighbour is also really inconsiderate, she has every conversation on loudspeaker and when I’m in my garden I can hear the whole thing - like other posters have commented about people on buses I wonder why it doesn’t bother her that I know so much about her life but I think she, like the bus wankers, is too self absorbed to realise let alone care

People have always done these things, it’s not new. Arseholes have always existed.

Arseholes have always existed but the thing about playing music without headphones is new. A whole generation has grown up for whom the concept of personal space doesn’t exist.

I do think it’s bizarre. Thirty years ago everyone knew it was unbelievably invasive to inflict music or entertainment on people who hadn’t sought it out. It happens so routinely now that I wonder what the parents of those kids have taught them.

I guess the previous generation equivalents were things like playing music in public, having bonfires or bbqs on the beach / in a park...
