Be honest… would you be ok with your child in a classroom like this?! Apparently common in state sector

our daughter is due to start school next September. We learned today that the classes are merged from ages 5 to 9. So 5 and 6 year olds in one class, 7 and 8 in another etc. This means in some instances children with be two years apart, depending when they are born, but in the same class?

surely this is crazy? Development is huge over a year at that age?

my DS’s primary (he’s secondary now) had this as they take 45 kids per year and too expensive to hire 2 teachers for 45. It worked fine in terms of ability, I think teachers have to differentiate in terms of ability anyway even within the same year. They had smaller groups for maths with teaching assistants teaching some. It was tricky at times for DS as it meant more changes of classmates throughout the school. I felt lead to less stable friendships but the school party line was that it helped children get used to making new friends.
