…to ask if anyone has had positive results after blunting on chest xray?

Absolutely beside myself right now.

i was put on birth control for PMDD and got chest pains so i stopped taking it (this birth control can cause blood clots on the lung) and GP sent me for a blood test, ecg and chest xray - that was 4 days ago. All came back fine apparently.

Ive just had a call from the hospital and they said actually there was ‘blunting of the costophrenic angles’ on the cray so I need to go back in 6 weeks to have another. I’ve of course googled it and it doesn’t sound good at all - fluid on the lungs, possible cancer, heart failure, all sorts. I am freaking out - feel sick, panicky, dizzy.

i cannot imagine how I will get through the next 6 weeks waiting! Has anyone had similar and has some good news?! 🙏🏻

yes, but it didn't take 6 weeks for me to get the allclear, it took 6 months, and several x rays

Gosh I’m so sorry that must have been awful 😞 what did it turn out to be?

it was down to pneumonia, but it took a very long time to heal

Wondering if anyone else has had similar?

No lung issues here and I’m not a medic but if it was suspected to be really urgent or malignant, wouldn’t they have you back sooner than 6 weeks?

I had prolonged investigations for cancer last year following 2 ‘ unprovoked’ DVT and some abdominal issues. The CT scan picked up thickened lining of the womb, and an ultrasound found some fluid deep in my abdomen. Of course, I was beside myself. I had to have more investigations and by the time the second ultrasound was done the fluid had disappeared. I can’t remember what happened with the womb lining but it was looked at more closely and was judged to be ok.

What I learned from this was that medical imaging is so prevalent now, a lot of things get flagged up which may be significant, or they may indicate a problem that isn’t going to kill you. Or as in my case, the issue just disappears.

Edited to change ‘DVD’ to DVT!

Thanks so much @Keepingongoing and I’m so sorry you went through that! I feel a little better about it, I have anxiety anyway which loves to masquerade as health anxiety anytime something like this happens, so just need to try to keep it in check for the next 6 weeks 🙏🏻

My sister had this - it turned out to be a bit of fluid on the lungs and some scarring, caused by a chest infection. Nothing more than that.

inattentive38 · 22/05/2024 16:30

thanks @KreedKafer ! Did she have symptoms though? I haven’t had a cough or anything for a long time - I don’t even remember the last time 🤔 I’m starting to wonder if it could be long covid - I had it 3 times last year and I’ve read lung fluid and scarring can be a symptom and I match a lot of the other symptoms which I didn’t realise!

If you are super concerned, go private. I know it is costly, but it could be a ghastly wait

inattentive38 · 22/05/2024 17:50

Thanks @Flugelb1nder , I actually tried that with my private healthcare today and they said no 😅 they said it’s so common to have to redo an X-ray but you must wait the 6 weeks to allow for any changes.
