To not have any more covid jabs?

YourSpleenIsDamp · 21/05/2024 11:36

Booster yesterday. Floored today. I have the jabs because I'm immune suppressed due to medication for psoriatic arthritis. Been stable for months with arthritis, then woken up in so much pain I feel like I've been run over. Usual joints plus some new ones which haven't flared before. Honestly feels like my ribs are broken. Aibu to say the jab isn't worth it and decline further ones?

No, I don't think that you are being unreasonable. I have also decided to decline any further boosters. You do your research and make a decision based on what you know. I have a friend who is vulnerable but so ill (for months) after the last booster she has also decided not to have anymore. Her GP agreed with the decision.

MinervaMcGonagallsCat · 21/05/2024 11:48

If you are still being offered jags then you must be in a vulnerable group. Is that a dice you want to roll?

YourSpleenIsDamp · 21/05/2024 11:51

Well, I've had covid three or four times, once before there were any vaccinations, and didn't find it too bad tbh. Not sure why I'm putting myself through the vaccination when it makes me feel worse than actually having covid!

I can’t believe they’re still giving them out given the scandal.

MiddleagedBeachbum · 21/05/2024 11:57

I can’t believe people are still getting them, honestly this will be the biggest medical scandal and cover up in history. They know they cause adverse reactions, way over and above any other vaccine in history yet they’re still pushing them out for money.

really sorry to hear you’re feeling so rough, hope you get better soon

Prawncow · 21/05/2024 11:57

My parents are elderly and they both had a (mild) reaction to the latest booster. Just chills, aches and a temperature the night after the jabs. They’ve not had any issue with the previous ones. I’d give it 48 hours and see if you still feel the same.

RedPony1 · 21/05/2024 12:13

MY CEV best friend opted out of boosters after the first two, she's willing to risk it. my parents are risking it too, i don't know anyone still having it so YANBU

gnatschuffs · 21/05/2024 12:25

I've stopped them but I know if I get covid I can get iv anti vitals which has pretty much stopped it in its tracks by the next day. I have had the shingles one though and will have a 'flu one later in the year

CherryRipe1 · 21/05/2024 12:30

I'm immunosuppressed and haven't had any jabs since the modena in 2021 when I had awful reactions and my autoimmune went ballistic, left me bedbound for 18 months. Had Covid since & whilst it wasn't great, better than the jabs. No more for me, I'll take my chances with Covid now.

I only had first two ( so I could travel) Hasn't stopped the harassment to have others from NHS Probably as I've been treated for cancer. Never actually had covid though .

Agree with every word of this. Absolutely horrendous what has done.

ExpressCheckout · 21/05/2024 12:36

Oh, feel for you OP, I just don't know what to do next time, either.

I'm pro-vaccine, immune suppressed so also very high risk, but I've just been completely floored by my booster too, never felt so ill.

Tinysarah1985 · 21/05/2024 12:46

I only had the first 2 when the government were going through the 'all nhs staff must have it or be sacked ' phase. I was back office admin staff at the time with absolutely no patient contact. I have not had any boosters and will not, I see absolutely no need for it

Frosty1000 · 21/05/2024 12:49

I was CEV and was so poorly after my 3, like life-changing poorly, I had during the rollout I'm not having anymore so I get it.

YourSpleenIsDamp · 21/05/2024 12:52

Yep - also pro vaccine and feeling very conflicted!

buffyslayer · 21/05/2024 12:54

I felt rough after my last one (think it was number 8) but only overnight
It's very similar to the side effects I get from another medication so I just made sure it was over the weekend so I wasn't off work

It's a tricky one

RedPony1 · 21/05/2024 13:03

8?? in 3 years? That seems like madness.

I think so, TBH I've lost count
3 initial vaccines then a booster (4th) then one every 6 months. Usually one with my flu jab and then another spring time ish

WePanickedAtTheDisco · 21/05/2024 13:22

I had my initial 2 (health care worker), as it was insisted upon at the time.
I’ve not had one since and would never have a covid jab again.

Jeevesnotwooster · 21/05/2024 13:47

I'm wondering about this too. Also immunosuppressed. However, when I did get covid, post vaccination in 2022 (so milder strain I think) I was pretty sick. So vaccine side effects less bad for me than covid.but I wasn't given retrovirals for some reason

I think you have answered your own question.

It is possible to be pro-vaccine but not take one or two.

I haven't and never would have a covid vaccine. The risk of death from covid is so low (for me) that the candle is not worth the light.

Taking an experimental vaccine over and over again when you have already had the illness is just daft.

TheBunyip · 21/05/2024 14:07

well, i am not vulnerable and just had the basic vaccs, i have had covid 5 times now. the first was pre vaccination and was pretty bad, the middle 3 times not so much of a big deal. i've just had it again and it was awful, like the first time, so my non-medical opinion is that my vaccination must have worn off and that it actually was doing me some good. however, i am not a doctor and have no medical insight apart from this anecdote

Me too. I was persuaded re the first 2 as I was considered vulnerable (over 75) but have flatly refused any more since then.
3 years on I am still refusing despite numerous 'invitations' from the NHS.

Like your parents I remain convinced that my own immune system will carry me through and not the endless boosters. If I succumb through my own stubborn-ness I take full responsibility.

My sister who is 5 years older - also stuck at 2.

Heidi1976 · 21/05/2024 14:11

I had the first 3 (not the AZ one) and have had COVID itself at least twice. First round was pre vaccine. Second was a long time after the last booster and my immune system cleared it in 4 days (according to the LFT's) Didn't appear to make much of a difference to symptoms or anything and I had a pretty bad localised reaction to the last booster. Think my immune system can do the work it needs to on it's own now so I won't bother either.
