Hi…
lots of active chat on teaching right now.. looking for abit of insight from women who may be more closely aligned to my own age/ circumstances for wanting to enter teaching.
Currently a Designer, self employed, aged 40. Totally flexible, WFH, suit my own schedule. Very lucky but earnings fluctuate a lot and for past 6mnths don’t seem sustainable (I survive but really don’t thrive- I’m not saving or funding my pension these past 18mnths now). Husband is not a high earner and I want us to have hols and savings going forward.
I have a 4yr old who started school, and I was full of awe and amazement at how incredible the early years are.
I’m sick of client work (adults inexcusably acting like children, often) and want to move to teaching Primary; specifically Foundation or Yr 1.
I used to do long hours in-house in the fashion industry so I’m used to stressful environments. Also used to client (annoying parents?) management!
TBH £35k-ish in a few years sounds v. good to me and will double what I’ve scraped lately..
I feel that early years will be less politics and more rewarding, plus the money is above average and because I have my own child to get home to, I will manage my time and boundaries firmly enough to leave by 5pm latest each day.
Am I naive?!
AIBU- yes
YANBU - no; sounds doable!
